This can be caused by a bad sector in the hard drive. Instead of a restore, try a system repair ,then reload if the repair doesn't work. If you have the same issue, or if it has an issue during or after the repair/reload, the the hard drive is beginning to fail and needs replaced.

Boot to Safe Mode, by pressing F8 during boot. Then try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

Remove all USB attached devices like drives.
You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose Safe Mode).

Win 7 - Start > Search type System Restore.
XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.
Uninstall last program(s) that was installed, again in safe mode.

My windows won't start up with my sony vgnar620e can you help me

There are a couple of quick fixes you can do.

First, boot into Safe Mode (Repeatedly tap the F8 key while the system is booting, before the windows logo appears) A Menu will pop up, press Boot Into Safe Mode. From there you can try a SystemRestore to a known good date.

System Restore - Click Start -> Control Panel -> On the top right, type "System Restore" without the quotes. Click on "Restore system files and settings from a restore point". You can choose the recommended restore or a specific date.

The other option is to boot into "Last Known Good Configuration". To do this, use the F8 trick again while booting, but instead of Safe Mode choose "Last Known Good Configuration".

Please note that either of these run a risk of some data being lost from the time the restore point was made. You "shouldn't" lose anything but just want to make you aware.

Acer asprie 5315 running xp sp2 system restore wont work, cant perform a system restore.

Boot to safe mode by pressng F8 as soon as you start the system,
Once you are in safe mode. try to access system restore. In safe mode you will get access to the system even if it faces a severe error.

If it is complete system restore (Restore to factory defaults) which you are looking for then press ctrl+F11 as soon as you start the computer. It will wipe the entire data and restore the system to its factory settings wiping out the entire data in the system.

Toshiba A-215 will not boot after windows update

Hi there.
Boot the machine into safe mode by restarting the PC, as it boots up hit the F8 key until it giver you a sub menu with safe mode at the top and select that.
Hopefully the system will boot into safe mode, if it does you want system restore (if you use Vista a pop up window will appear on the right hand side of the screen, click on system restore, with XP just follow on-screen instructions)
All you have to do is select a date to before you performed the updated and restore from there.
Please keep us posted!!

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Safe mode

Hi there, Try tapping F8 on boot to access the boot menu select "start windows normal". if it will not let you boot in to safemode with cmd promt and run "chkdsk /f" to check for bad sectors and repair othere HD issues. Also try "Last known Configuration" as a last ditch effort before moving on to System restore. IF system restore options fail to work let me know and we can do a system restore and restore your system to an earlier time through the cmd prompt. Good luck and i hope this helps

Just bought my Vaio yesterday....

Hi

First of all just relax, its not very serious issue. You can start the computer in safe mode. All you need is click on F8 key during the boot process right after turn on the computer. Once you get into advanced safe mode, you can perform system restore. If you are using Vista on it you can just type System Restore in start search area and get into System restore option choose the date that system worked fine. After restore issue should be resolved. If you need further assistance please post.

Good Luck
