Re: presario 1200 locks up and the screen fades to white
Sounds like the machine is overheating. Check to see if the cooling fan is working properly and comeing on at regular intervals. It could just need a good cleaning. I had a similar machine with the same problem, turned out to be a hair wrapped in the fan. Your's may or may not be this simple, you may need to replace the fan. If this doesn't fix it let me know and we'll take a different approach.

its ur lcd screen problem mainly comes when ur screen get some external shock to screen mainly its not repairable need to replace the screen other way is a risky one by resolding the screen main board which is behind the lcd screen (dont try urself ) nd its not a big problem as ur screen work properly
will it work while on battery power if it does it might be over charging or maybe it is getting to much voltage though the ac adapter i done some research on this and seems this is a issue with this model try this find a friend or someone that has an ac adapter and switch out just to see this maybe the cause
Ack. Sounds like you might need to replace your screen (sounds pricey but is cheaper than a new laptop). You can find second hand/refurbished screens or another Aspire with a working screen being sold for parts on Ebay or here
On a side note, if you a have a PC monitor lying around, you can access your files by hooking it up to your laptop via the dvi slot. Granted, it seems a bit ghetto but its a quick fix until you get something more permanent.
I recently broke my iPhone screen and completely shattered a dell laptop a few years ago. You know all those people who are adamant about you buying proper carrying/protective cases? Screw 'em.
