Ps3 hit floor. comes on for 3-5mins then changes colors and freezing up. its a old 60gb. before fall fan ran loud and now doesnt seem to be working, but not such if ps3 is running long for fan to come on tho. can i fix this myself?

When it hit the floor there might be some cercuit error since then..so it freezes u try switching on in hdmi mode or try updating it..if nothing working for u then u check this site for solution

Well from what i hear it is just that the laser inside the ps3 that reads the disc could be damaged, dirty, or even not in the right spot. sometimes the read laser that reads the disc can move from on spot to another if you hit the ps3 or if it falls (ETC).
try using a different cable (if ur using hdmi try AV or maybe other way round) once you get it on your can change the lead used in settings
not sure bout ur controller
hook up the ps3 thru the regular yellow composite and HDMI. Go into the settings and change the output to HDMI and then see if you can get video thru the HDMI, if you don't then the mainboard is bad and you would have to send it to Sony unless you can get your hands on another broken sony ps3 with a good main board.
if you think the fan is not running it may not or on new models the fan is so quiet so put your hand on the back of the unit and see if you can feel air coming out of the unit if not then I have fan on sale or you can send your unit and we can tested and install a new fan or fix your freezing problem if the fan is ok
I hope your PS3 is relatively new, as I have had the same experience with my first PS3.
It was deemed a technical malfunction and I got a new one.
If you haven't already done so, go to the store where you bought it and explain the problem.
You should get a new one if it is not too old, refering to purchase law.
I have had this same probelm unfortnaully .. It sux , and after trying alot of different things and reading , and talking to sony themselfs seems only fix is $150 repair or a new playstation :( . . Have you noticed your fan is just loud and has like 3 stages of loudness? Thats what mine did , and i got the red flashing lights if not loud then anthor device in your playstation has stopped working sorry to say
