Not clear what you mean. Change camera or change ccd? If the latter where can I purchase a replacement from and is it simple to replace it myself?

  • petermaria Jun 30, 2008

Have tried resetting but problem still remains. Because the problem is intermittent I suspect it is some kind of connection problem. Is this likely?

  • petermaria Jul 02, 2008

None of the experts diagnosed the problem. I am no wiser than when I started with my enquiry. As I live in the UK the 2 repairers suggested are not practical.

Have u tried an upgrade?

u cud get a replacement LCD for $40 f it is second hand. A new one from PENTAX Part Number 76650-0500 Tel 1 800 877 0155 Is just under $60 plus $8 shipping in the USA but is currently out of stock. There is also a San Diego company with limited stock (5) that wants about $70.

Removal of the LCD is relatively straight forward. First remove the battery and the card. Then unscrew some very minute philips screws and carfully remove the back cover. Separate the two halves of the cover with a thumbnail to unhook a snap connection after the screws have been removed.

It's best not to remove the front cover so as to avoid damage or contamination of unrelated areas.

To remove the LCD look for the retaining snaps and gently pry the left side ( camera facing forward and upright) back and lift the

left side of LCD up and unhook the right side.

The LCD will now still be attached by the multi wire strap and a minute two wire connector. Using tweezers on the plug and not the wires gently disconnect the two wire connector. The multi wire strap with about 25 miniscule gold connectors is held down on the mating contacts with a clear sticky tape. I was able to pull mine loose before I saw the sticky tape.

To reinstall the replacement LCD a very good magnification of the 25 or so contacts may be required to correctly line up all the mating contacts on the back of the camera as there is no apparent mechanical means to correctly align this.

There is no soldering required or practical at his connection.

Use some clear sticky tape to hold it in position. After reconnecting the 2 wire plug the right way up and when the LCD is folded over back into position and snapped down into to the retension snaps, this should also apply gentle presure to the 25 pin connector. Adding a very thin layer of non conductive material over the 25 pin connector before snapping the LCD back might be helpfull in the longterm retension but too much compression will may fail the new LCD. ( Well that is what I'm going to do when I get my LCD) ( I may also put the battery and card back in and switch it on before replacing the rear cover taking care not to get an electrical shock through some accidental discharge, so don't do as I say unless you know what you are doing)

Re assembling the rest should be straight forward. Then test the result.

Add in an extra layer of clear plastic over the exterior cover of the LCD to better protect it. It is also advisable to have a hard case or reinforce a small soft case with a used credit card to protect the LCD, so as not to have to repeat this again.

in my opinion it wud be better of if you contact ur authorized dealer.

Pentax Optio s50 screen problem

If no error code on the LCD screen, then you have either very weak batteries or a bad CCD problem/malfunction. One way to test the batteries is plug in your AC/DC source and try to turn on your camera again and try taking some pictures. Also make sure you have a memory card present in the camera. If it works, then it was the batteries. If it still doesn't work, then its the CCD. Time for repair.

Normally there are two reasons for the given problem. 1). Bad or defective CCD. and/or 2). shutter not working. in the first case the only solution is the replacement of the CCD. and in the later case sticking of shutter blade, non functioning of shutter blade will cause the problem. This can be rectified by sending it to some repairer.

You are probably in play mode and not in camera mode. Switch the camera back to camera mode (move the witch so its in the camera position- you will see a small camera icon) in order to take pictures.

USB Connection problem Optio S4

have you turned the camera ON after connecting the cables? Next, does this USB port on the computer work with other USB devices such as memory sticks? My O555 has a USB socket that feels really "fragile" and I fear I will damage the socket with improper insertion (alignment seems touchy). I bought an external USB card reader and am really happy with that. You don't use up battery power transferring your files. Much better solution, IMO.
