I have a suggestion: Use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. I don't use IE unless I have to. Open source software like Firefox or Chrome is much better--faster, and less prone to hacking.

Get Firefox at www.mozilla.com and Chrome at www.google.com.

BTW-at this time, Chrome is rated as the fastest browser.

While openig yahoo.com the message comes "the webpage cannot be displayed". All other websites Gmail, indiatimes etc working fine.

It could definitely be a Firewall or Browser issue.
Firewall Issue
If you have installed any third part firewall, disable it for 5 mins and try. Else check for Windows Firewall in Control panel, disable it for 5 mins and try. If succeeds, then you need to check the Firewall configurations. www.yahoo.com would be blocked in the configurations.
Browser issue
Try opening yahoo using various browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Chrome) if it opens in any of these, then you have to check the Connection settings in the one which has the problem.

You could temporarily disable your computers own firewall as a test measure to see if this resolves your problem, if it does then you know that the problem lies in your firewall settings. reactivate it and set it to default settings. Your router should run a basic firewall meanwhile, just to take extra care to only test visit trusted sites (bbc.co.uk, youtube, cc.com) well known ones.
revert your IE to default settings for a start.

Often two firewalls on the same LAN conflict. Both are trying to do the same job; the conflict may cause an otherwise good Internet connection to drop. If this happens, use the NETGEAR firewall, and disable the other. Two situations are described here, but the general approach applies to any firewall active on a NETGEAR LAN.
The Windows firewall may be turned on without you knowing, for example, if the XP Network Setup Wizard was used.
To Disable Windows' Firewall
See Microsoft knowledgebase article: How to: Enable or Disable Internet Connection Firewall In Windows XP. (Note that you must be logged on as administrator, if you are not, no "Advanced" tab will appear as described.) For hints about using these Windows features, search firewall in Windows help, and select the article Enable or Disable Internet Connection Firewalls.

To Enable the NETGEAR Firewall
Consult your router's User Guide or Reference Manual. Look for sections such as "Using Basic Firewall Services" or "Allowing and blocking keywords, sites, services". Manuals are available for downloading on this site.

To Disable the Norton Firewall
  1. Right-click the Norton Internet Security icon on the system tray and select Disable.

To Disable the McAfee Firewall
  1. Uninstall McAfee
  2. Reinstall McAfee, selecting Custom Installation.
  3. Unselect McAfee Firewall.
  4. Finish the rest of the McAfee installation as you did before.
To Disable Zone Alarm
  1. Right-click the Zone Alarm icon in the System Tray, and select Shutdown Zone Alarm.
Also search the Zone Alarm forum for such issues as this product continually logging people off AOL, or Windows XP wrongly reporting that Zone Alarm has been turned off.

I cannot install the latest version of yahoo messenger

Your Windows firewall may be interfering with the connection. You can unplug from the internet, then turn off your firewall, (security center), then install, then turn the firewall back on and reconnect your internet cable.
Or, follow the instructions from Yahoo here and here.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Can't connect to certain websites

What's the Operating system of your laptop? What browser are you using?

If you're using Windows OS and Internet Explorer browser, you may try changing some settings on the Internet Options.

Open your Internet Explorer browser, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options. On the General tab, click on Delete Cookies, Delete Files and Clear History.

Then go to Connections tab. Make sure Never dial a connection is selected. Click on LAN Settings button. Uncheck all boxes. Click Apply and OK.

Make sure also that there's no Firewall enabled on your computer such as the Windows Firewall, Norton, McAfee, etc.

You may also try using a different browser like Mozilla Firefox or Opera.
