Oster wine cooler (peltier diode)

The cooler does not cool-, the digital inputs( temperature display, light work). Both the red and green lights are on (on the circuit board). Both fans are off, the peltier cooler is not hot or cold. Thanks.

Same exact problem. LEDs are lit and fans will not come on I have this problem with 3 units that I was using under the counter. it has to be the circuit board since neither fan is working. I thought I would just swap out the fans but I think it is with the controller board

My oOster wine cooler was in use for only 6 months when it developed a similar problem. Both the red and green lights were on but it no longer cools and I cannot detect any fans in operation. What to do? I really liked it while it worked!

Same problem. The fan seemed to be struggling 10 days ago. Came home from vacation and it's dead. The red and green lights are on...74 degrees on temperature gauge. No fans. Plugged, replugged, clean fan screen again. Nothing. I really like this product; it fits our space perfectly and it holds 12 bottles.

Best Buy says "too bad" should have bought our $40 warranty!

I have the same problem. After being bounced from phone number to phone number, I found this is actually manufactured by a company called Petters. Call 866-866-6283. If you still have your original receipt, they'll refund the purchase price. If you are like me and didn't save it. Best Buy can reprint it. I'd also recommend that everyone who has this problem contact Jason Sterling at Jarden Consumer products. They are the company that owns the Oster named and allowed this piece of **** to be sold under a name that used to have a decent reputation. Jason's contact info is:

Oh, by the way, this company also owns the names, Sunbeam, Coleman, Mr. Cofee, FoodSaver, Seal-a-meal, Holmes, Rival & Crock-Pot. After this mess, you'll never find a new one of any of those in my kitchen!

I have the same problems with my Oster wine cooler...sitting on 73 degrees, light & temp work but not cooling. Was a Christmas gift that was purchased at Target.

    Same exact problem.

Called the number 866-866-6283. and they said that they will refund!!!

  • rhenry Sep 22, 2008

I have the same problem, called the Petters company and spoke with a person who indicated that there was a company who supposedly went under 2 weeks ago, and therefore there is no one to back or offer refunds, and thus the warranty is null and void! They suggested contacting the place that I purchased it through, which is Best Buy, and as we've all seen, from prior posts, I'm not confident that they'll stand behind anything. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them...just about to give up.

Same problem as described. Purchased in April and failed in July. Contacted manufacturer's service number - 866-866-6283 - in late July and received e-mail confirmation with case number on July 31 that a full refund was on its way. Waited until October for refund with no luck. Heard nothing back so called manufacturer but number was disconnected.

On October 25, I got on Oster's US website and contacted customer service at 800-334-0759. I spoke with Jasmine who told me the manufacturer had gone out of business, but Oster's legal team and customer service team were working on a solution and would call within 2 weeks. She expected a full refund would probably be issued but could make no guarantee. I anticipated calling her back in three weeks to learn more.

my son purchased me an Oster wine refridgerator in June 2008 and in August 2008 it quit working (red sensor went off in back and motor shut off) - I contacted Oster in September and was told I needed to obtain the receipt - my son paid cash at Best Buy and they are not able to locate the receipt - I have a reference number from my initial call to them and they said I would get a full refund if I can get a copy of a receipt, but with Best Buy not being able to help with their new system, and the fact that my son didn't keep a receipt - I'm SOL even with sending in the little registration card - very frustrating - It would seem that either Best Buy or Oster should back these up as there are alot of frustrated customers

I have the same problem. Purchased at Best Buy in March. I have been calling Oster for the last 3 months, they haven't done anything.

Anyone interested in filing a class action suit against Oster, please email me at

I was given the fridge as a gift last Christmas and it stopped working in September. Same issue... display and light works, but it doesn't cool anymore.

  • tjjac02 Dec 27, 2008

I have the same problem as everyone describes here. I purchased the Oster wine cellar at Best Buy last December. The unit hasn't worked for the last month. The interior light works as well as the display (stays at 73 degrees). When I turned the unit around, I noticed I had one red and one green light on. I have no idea what the lights refer to, but the motor seems to be blown. From reading the other posts, it probably isn't worth my time pursuing this through the company if they went out of business.

  • jcsenour Jan 18, 2009

We have an oster 12 bottle wine cooler that worked for 10-months, afterwhich it quit cooling. All the lights work, but we can't get it below 70degrees or room temperature.

same issue. I was just given an e-mail address to a lawyer in Minnesota from the Oster Customer Service department as I have been calling them monthly. I have heard nothing from the laywer yet but it can't hurt to try.

Lawyer is Law Firm is Kelley-Wolter in Minneapolis

  • mmcc336 Apr 18, 2009

I got that same wine cooler in Dec 2007 - it quit working in 5 months. Under the instructions from JARDEN CONSUMER PRODUCTS I cut the cord and mailed it to the vendor and I filled out all requested paperwork to file the complaint. Months later, many emails later, no good solutions from Jarden. They told me to write lawyers so I response after 5 months. Very sad. Don't buy JARDEN BRANDS! They did not stand behind their licensed products.

It sounds like it is in the correct temperature range. You may ned to adjust the temperature to a lower setting.

Wine fridge is not getting cold anymore

Its really hard to determine without proper diagnosis, but are you sure it indeed has a compressor? does it run ? Does it have a circulating fan inside? A lot of the wine coolers I've dealt with were "Peltier" coolers. They use electronics to cool usually only to about 10deg below room temp. They require a load ( in this case wine bottles ) to operate properly. They don't have a cold control like a refrigerator.

My Cuisinart cwc-600 does not cool. It registers 45 degrees but is not cold enough to make white wine palatable. No matter where it is set, it seems to be a room temperature. We live in a small house so...

I have been all through these, and they are not very repair friendly. If it's under 3 years old Call Cuisinart, they will exchange it.

They are solid state cooled using a peltier chip cooler. There are 2 fans in the back cavity, and 1 inside. Remove everything from inside, and set the temp to cooling. Do all 3 fans run? If the inside fan does not run, no cooling. The fans are common 2 wire 12 volt computer fans, and available at computer parts stores that sell PC cases and components. Next is to check the cooler itself. Remove the inside rear cover. There's heatsink under the inside fan. Does it get cold when the fridge is running? If not, the next step you will need to get the back off. The Torx screws are special, but a quick slotting of the screw heads with a dremel or a hacksaw, and a regular screwdriver will remove them. Once off, note the red/black fan wires. Also see if there is a load of dirt in the heat sink. If it's plugged, no cooling. Back to the red/black wires. The fan wires are thin. The peltier cooler is heavier. Set to cool, Check for 12 volts on all 3 pairs of wires. If there's power, the fans run (inside and out) and the inside heat sink does not cool, the peltier chip is bad. It's major surgery to replace the cip, but it can be done, and there are scads of sellers on E-bay selling 60-90 watt peltier coolers that will work. They are standard millimeter square sizes, just match the thickness, 12-15 volts, and wattage (around 60-90).

If you are not getting power on the peltier cooler chip lines, there is a tiny fuse on the lower left of the circuit board. Check it.

These are not servicable from cuisinart. Even the silly screws to change the light bulb are security torx type. Fans are available at computer parts stores. Fuses at electronic supplies. The peltier chip can be had from E-bay. That circuit board is impossible to get. Any other parts are impossible to get to by the way it's built.

Wine cooler displays temperature setting but does not run or cool wine.

It's 1 of 3 things...

A. The fans are not turning. Remove the back, and see if the fans are getting 12 volts, and spinning freely. Remove them and clean off the dust from the heat sink.
B. The Peltier Chip is shot. If the fans run, check for 12 volts on the power connector that's on thelower left of the curcuit board. If there's power, but no cooling, the Peltier is shot. These are available from E-bay for ~$13, but it's a major dissassembly to get it out.
C. If you don't get 12 volts to the fans or the Peltier chip, replace the circuit board.

FR23SL Uses Peltier Cooling - No compressor nor freon....

Luzer - Thanks for the very helpful solution. My cooler has the problem described. When I take off the back and plug it back in, all three fans run, but the unit does not get cold. Is it possible that it needs new fans anyway (like maybe they are going but not moving enough air to generate the effect)? Or woudl it be something else?

Wine cooler does not get cool - fans do not run the light and temperature display do work

if you hear the compressor tun on but not the fan, replace the fan and you may have to defrost the evaporator coils. if the compressor does not turn on either, it's the thermostat, the defrost timer, or a relay on the main board.
