Question about Oreck XL Ultra Bagged Upright Vacuum

Black marks on carpet

While I was walking on the carpet, I noticed a couple of black marks. I figured it was on someone shoes. I was vacuum a couple of days later and stated noticing small black marks on the right side of the brush marks left in the carpet by the brushes. I tried to clean them and they don't come out. They are sort of like a scorched pinched place or something. I had the handyman take it apart and he found nothing stuck in it, belt was replacd not to long ago, and he said everything looked fine. The black marks are not on the belt side. Maybe a wheel is sticking? It all seems to roll, and turn ok.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Oreck XL Ultra Bagged Upright Vacuum. After reading your question, there are only a few things that could be causing the problem. It is very possible that the brushroll could be dirty, or install wrong, on the ends of the brushroll the gray bearing holders will state NEW and OLD and both of the bearing holders needs to be identical – meaning the 2 should say NEW / NEW or OLD / OLD, not new / old of which could be causing the problem. The average belt change should be done every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning, and the extra belts are stored in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator. If the wheels are spinning properly then it is not the wheels unless they are dirty and the can be cleaned just by popping them out of the bottom plate holder with a screwdriver and then clean them under the sink. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

I received a NEW dyson ball vacuum for Christmas. I have noticed when I vacuum with it that dirt collects all over the ball and the vacuum beater head. Is this normal. I have had the regular upright...

This may sound silly, but it sounds like that you a have static electricity problem. If the dust is collecting on top (outside of the brush head that is probably the static attracting it. This is common during the colder months. You know how during these months when you walk across carpet and then just someone or a metal objest, you get a shock.
You might try lightly spraying a little "static guard" on the top of the brush head before using it, or using a carpet dusting product that smells good, and may reduce the static.

Seems to be sucking up the particles from the actual carpet, either the pad or carpet itself Help???

It sounds like there may be sand in the carpet. If you live in a sandy area, this is not unusual. Walking on the carpet will cause the fibers to rub on the sand and eventually be cut through. The vacuum is strong enough to pick up these fibers, but not the sand that's causing the problem. I recommend buying a vacuum that has enough suction to pick up the sand. One that you don't have to replace every couple years.
My recommendations would be: Aerus (once Electrolux), TriStar, Filter Queen, or Royal. Avoid any that have plastic fans, as the fan blades will wear down fairly quickly with sand being vacuumed.

Cant put the roller back on right!

The user manual has a diagram and instructions and is available online.
I could try to walk you through but their diagrams and instructions are pretty good.
A couple tips....the small red plate screws in laying flat and the largers one slides in sideways. If you try to match the screws holes up it may help.
Also the first time I had troubles we called Bissel and someone helped us.

Dark marks on carpet after using hoover

these dark marks are burn marks from the beater bar itself. most walmart, kmart, and target shelf vacuums from hoover, dyson, and any cheeper vacuum has a hard bristle system. I've noticed even on the high end hoovers as well that they do the same thing. the best way to save your carpets is to see if there is a replacement beater bar that can be substituted for your vacuum. i dont know what style of beater bar that particular one is but check with your local vacuum repair center to see if they have something with softer brushes you can use insted otherwise i would recommend a new vacuum with softer bristles. usually something that is half as stiff as what is already on yur unit. you culd also try lifting the hight setting as a temporary solution.
