The front side bus speed of the processor is the limiting factor of your RAM speed.
The Processor has a 400 Mhz FSB, hnece your RAM runs at 266.
For RAM to run at 333 (PC 2700), you'll need a 533 FSB Processor.

I am trying to upgrade the ram of my Dell Dimension 2400 that I got a long time ago. I was wondering if this ---->...

Yup It will work. The max amount of ram is dependent on you OS system you are using but I would not worry about that you are most likely not going to go over.

RAM running slowly

hi there
this is very interting you are asking for fsb to adjest at 333mhz.
for this first you have to look your prosser fsb , *********** board fsb and your ram fsb.
fsb is a front side bus on which data ia is running at speed but for high speed you have to increase your fsb you are askin (ie:333mhz). itell you how?
example : your prosser fsb is 266mhz
your ram fsb is 400mhz as you told
*********** board fsb is 333mhz

now you system fsb is constant on 266 mhz because system on that fsb witch supporting by ram prosser and mobo( motherboard).
if you want to increase the fsb you have to buy mobo, ram,and prosser at same fsb.

There u go! and YES, 2GB is tha maximum RAM you can have on that one.
But NO, you can NOT use PC3200 sticks, this is what you can use:
PC2100 (266-MHz) or PC2700 (333-MHz) DDR SDRAM (non-ECC)

You can read all about in the documentation obove

Good luck

I bought 1 GB of Ram ddr 400 for my dell dimension 2400

it might be not compatible.
Do you have the older memory inserted? If yes is it the same speed as the new one you bought?
Is your laptop front side bus capable of a speed of 400 Mhz?
Try to remove the old Ram and use the new one only!

it will work, but not optimal for a good performance. Always choose memories with same ratings for best results
