Question about Brother ML-300 Typewriter

Beeping sound when powering unit on

While attempting to install a new ribbon, the typing mechanism 'popped up' and would not snap back down with new ribbon installed. I powered unit off in an attempt to reset the location of the typing unit. When I turned the unit back on it is making a beeping sound and will not stop. The typing mechanism is locked at the far left of the unit. I cannot install a new ribbon. Any ideas?

Typeing goes to far left and wont come back when you turn on just clivks there a few times like it wants to go farther and beeps until you turn it off. none of the keys will do anything mine is really a 300m pretty old compactronic electronic typewriter

Have you simply pushed the carriage back to the middle? If it is like the ML100 (it looks the same) you can just push it over ...with the pwoer off. Then put in you new ribbon. And this time, when you turn it on, it is the new ribbon that hits a switch on the underside of the keyboard, located to the upper left. If you do not have a ribbon installed, it will travel all the way to the left, and beep, beep, beep, beep. ,,,, The switch is hit with the ribbon housing.

Keyboard want work


If your machine is not printing properly:
1.Examine the ribbon cartridge to make sure it has not run out of Ribbon. If your ribbon appears silver or gray, install a new cartridge.
2. Ensure the black lever in the center of the carriage is pressed to the rear, towards the paper. If not press it to the rear to lock the Daisy Wheel into place.
3. With the typewriter turned off, press and hold down the "CODE" Key, the "SHIFT" Key, and the "TAB" Key.
4.Restore power with all three Keys depressed.
5.When the machine sounds a beep tone, release all three keys.
6.The carrier will move to the left indicating that the memory has been cleared and the machine has been reset.
7.Try typing.
If the problem continues, your unit will need servicing. You can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center in your area:

Needles hitting inner mechanism


it sounds like the machine could be out of time, I would suggest taking the machine back & getting another one.

Laptop keyboard doesnt work, extensa 5220 laptop . keyboard keys do nothing,boots up fine , and mouse functions fine, can get on facebook , but cant type anything.


Either something got spilled in it or the connection ribbon got jossled lose. The top power bezel should be in with clip snaps. Remove it then the keyboard should pop up after you lightly squeeze the sides in. Look under the keyboard there is a ribbon that connects with a lock snap. Lightly push the lock clip up and push the ribbon back in and snap the clip back on. Do not put it all together yet try booting it apart and try the keyboard. If it still doesnt work power down remove battery unplug it and finish removing the keyboard order u a new 1. They run around $20 brand new.

How do you connect the tiny ribbon from the lower screen to the PCB board. If you put it on top of the black locking mechanism, how do you secure it! thanks


The black locking mechanism pops up with a little prying, then you put the ribbon cable UNDER it. After that, snap the mechanism back down and it will hold the ribbon cable in place.
I have done this repair several times, so just let me know if you have any more questions.

New ribbon and can't get it to type


did you make sure that the end pieces are engaged into the brackets in the part facing you. Also if the correction tape is not loaded onto the ribbon prior to installing it, it will do that too.

Time showing on panel. No functions work.when I touch any button,


You can try to reseat the serial ribbon but it sounds like a board problem. to reseat the ribbon, unplug unit. remove the case for counter top models, otr models need to remove the grille, and the control panel screw, lift up and pull out at the top. the serial ribbon is a flat set of wires at the top of the board lift on the connector latch to loosen the ribbon pull it out, push it back in and relatch. close up the control panel before plugging back in. if it works great, if not it is time for a new microwave boards are very expensive.

How do I put in new ink cartridge??


Get yourself a new ribbon Gen. Ribbon T-340 and a lift off Gen. Ribbon T-350 the lift off snaps onto the bottom of the ribbon and then both go on the typewriter there are two small tabs onthe ribbon cassette that go into notches on the front of the ribbon deck then the unit snaps down in the back held by the blue latch.

Bose Sounddock - Speakers have a loud hiss at low song volume


Here is how I fixed the hissing noise in my Soundock;
--Pull the bottom plate off (It is attached by 4 screws)
--There is a green motherboard with 2 ribbonwires. .
--One of the ribbonwires (the one the mounts the ribbon vertically) had loosened up.
--Use a tweezers to pop it back into place and that noise will disappear.

This is a design flaw, as the action of inserting/removing your ipod, coupled with the action of setting your sound dock down will work this ribbon loose.

Fault code c-31:22


your needs repair in mechanism..Fault given is undetected reel motor rotation .This can be caused by a bad captan motor ,pinch roller bad or bad LS chassis ribbon from upper cassette mechanism.If unit has old type (B) mechanism ,there is a good change LS chassis ribbon is bad .When cassette is inserted and pushed into mech .The latch for LS chassis wears down ribbon and causing a sensor fault ..
