Laptop memory module keepers

I have an acer aspire 7520 and the little plastic/metal keepers that hold the memory stick in place are broken. If I take the laptop to my local Best Buy are they likely to be able to replace them?

Can you remove cmos Battery from acer aspire 7520

See http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/drivers then select your Acer Aspire 7520 which will then give you access to the User Guide for this laptop.
In the User Guide - under Troubleshooting Tips and Error Messages it says:Error messages Corrective actionCMOS battery bad Contact your dealer or an authorized service center.CMOS checksum error Contact your dealer or an authorized service center.
This suggests that you would need to take your laptop to a dealer or service centre to get the CMOS battery replaced which would be advised if the laptop is still under warranty.
The alternative would be to open any covers on the underside of the case and see if your can see a small button cell type battery that you may be able to get a replacement for. Please note that you should remove the main battery before opening the laptop case and ensure that you ground yourself to avoid damaging any components with static electricity from your clothing etc.

How do I add ram to my acer aspire 5742

Please note: Never touch the gold pins of the memory chips and earth yourself out before you start to discharge any static build up. Installing the RAM is just a case of unscrewing the relevant plastic panel on the base of the laptop, gently pulling apart the white handles that hold the current RAM chips in place, slide out the old and then slide the new chips into place making sure that they go in the same way round as the old ones came out. Gently push down on the RAM chip once its seated correctly and you should hear the white handles click when the module is in place.

There looks to be several different variations on the 5742 model so I'd recommend finding out the exact laptop model number and amount of RAM currently installed before purchasing an upgrade. From what I can tell your model comes with either 3Gb or 4Gb of DDR3 SDRAM 1066 MHz with the motherboard accepting a maximum of 8Gb but you really need to make sure that you've got exactly the right type of RAM or your laptop won't even get to the BIOS after installation before it starts beeping at you.

You should also be aware that specific versions of Windows have a maximum memory limit so you could go to the trouble and expense of installing a pair 4Gb modules only for the operating system to use just 4Gb. More info on 32bit and 64bit operating system memory limits can be found at this link.

Where are the slots for memory in Acer Aspire 3680-2022

HI there,

1. Turn the laptop over.
2. Remove the battery
3. The slots will be under one of the removable plates on the bottom (most Acers have them located under th largest cover plate).
4. If you're replacing or upgrading your ram, you'll see the RAM sticks are held in by spring clips on their sides. Gently spread the clips apart and the RAM sticks will pop up slighlty. Pull them straight out. Install the the RAM by inserting straight in on the angle of most ease making sure the little indent key that goes in the one small slot on the RAM stick is fully engaged (you want to make sure to seat the new RAM stick all the way in) Then merely press down on the back edge until the the stick presses by the clips and they click and hold it in place.

Regards,

Selk

I just upgraded the RAM memory on my acer aspire 7520-5757 from 1g to 4g. The computer is showing a level of 2,8g. How would I get the system to recognize the right amount of memory installed?

You will need to upgrade the Windows to a 64bit edition. Read this

I have an Acer Aspire 7540-1284 laptop that came with 3GB memory. The specs say expandable to 4GB but the manual says expandable to 8GB using soDimm modules. I can't find info anywhere to support...

it prolly has 2 ram slots, capable of holding a 4gig ram stick apiece- for a total of 8 gigs.

however, the largest ram stick they currently make is 2 gigs. your board can support 2x4gigs of ram (8 altogether), buit the most ram you can currently purchase is 2x2gigs (for 4 gigs altogether).

additionally, you have to have a 64 buit version of windows to regognize all 8 gigs if you had them.
a 32 bit version of windows will recognize no more than 4 gigs of ram.

ACER ASPIRE 7520 NO CHARGING, NO RUN ON MAIN, RUN ON BATERY ONLY

You cannot visually inspect laptop components to verify component level damage. You may have damages something in the motherboard tracers, or popped a solder loose, or worse, created a micro fracture in one of the surface mounted chips.

Before going further, i would suggest you thoroughly test the battery, or power supply for charging the laptop, as well as make sure the power connector jack on the motherboard is not damaged in any way. If the jack is the problem, they are quite easy to replace, but knowledge with soldering on delicate components may be necessary.

I would have suggested requesting an RMA if the laptop was still under warranty, but by removing the motherboard to inspect it, you have voided any warranty you may have had.
