Laptop memory module keepers

I have an acer aspire 7520 and the little plastic/metal keepers that hold the memory stick in place are broken. If I take the laptop to my local Best Buy are they likely to be able to replace them?

Acer Aspire 7520G-502G25Mi Keyboard Repair and ReplacementAre you considering laptop keyboard repair? You might think twice if you happen to be the lucky owner of a laptop, because replacing the keyboard rather than repairing it could be a lot less expensive. Laptop keyboard replacement on this particular model is very easy and takes just a few minutes. Here is a quick Acer Aspire 7520G-502G25Mi Keyboard repair tutorial with step-by-step instructions. Once you have purchased the new keyboard, all you need to replace the old with the new is a screwdriver and something plastic, flat and thin like a credit card or guitar pick.
Step one: Remove the two screws from the bottom of the computer that are holding down the Acer Aspire 7520G-502G25Mi Keyboard bezel. The bezel is the bar that sits right above all the function keys.
Step two: Turn the computer over, open the cover and insert the credit card or guitar pick between the bezel and the laptop screen. The bezel has pegs that sit in holes, you need to slowly pry up the bezel. It will make a bit of a popping noise as it is removed.
Step three: Now hold on to the laptop keyboard from the end closest to the screen and gently pull it away from the touch-pad end and flip it over. You will see the ribbon attached to the underside of the Acer Aspire 7520G-502G25Mi Keyboard. There is a little plastic connector holding the ribbon to the computer. To unlock it, carefully pull up on the two tabs; one located on each corner of the connector. Be very gentle when you do this as this is the one part that gets broken the most often when changing a keyboard. The ribbon cable will now be released.
Step four: Carefully pull the ribbon out of the connector and remove it along with the entire Acer laptop keyboard.
Final step: To insert the new Acer Aspire 7520G-502G25Mi Keyboard, place the board face down so you have easy access to the ribbon. Make sure the keyboard is lined up so when you flip it back over the keys are in the correct position. Keep the ribbon straight at all times; twisting it could damage it. Place the ribbon in the connector; it only goes in one way. Once in place, push down on the connector tabs to lock it. Now flip the keyboard over and slide it down toward the touch pad and take the bezel and line the pegs up with the holes and push it in place. Then turn the computer over and replace the two screws you removed from the bottom. You can now power on your computer and see if the Acer Aspire 7520G-502G25Mi Keyboard works. If it is not working, more than likely the ribbon was not inserted properly.

How do I access the memory boards in the Acer Aspire 5315 Notebook pc?

1) Remove ALL electrical power to the laptop. The AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

2) Open the laptop, press the Power On button, and hold it in for a count of 5 seconds. (Removes residual power)

3) Close the laptop, turn it over. Remove the 'Thermal Door'. This is a large panel on the back of the laptop. There are several Philips head screws to remove, going around the outer perimeter of the panel.

Here you will see the panel removed, and the ram memory compartment marked.

Handle a Ram Memory module ('Stick') by the body, and refrain from touching the gold plated contact pins on the bottom.

The body is coated with a see-through protective plastic.
Your body carries Static electricity, and Static will fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.

There are two ram memory slots.
There are two metal clips that hold a ram memory module in place.

One on each side of the ram memory module. Look at the sides of the ram memory module, where the metal clips press against.

Each metal clip has a rounded 'knob' that fits inside a Notch, on the sides of the ram memory module.

Use the fingernails of one hand, to ease out on the 'knob' of one clip, while doing the same to the other clip, with the other hand.
(Ease the clips out away from the ram memory module)

Once the clip's knob is free from the notch of the ram memory module, the ram memory module should slightly pop up on one side.

Lift the side that comes up, to a slight angle, then keeping it at that angle, remove it.

DO NOT lift straight up on the ram memory module, or you'll damage the connecting pins in the ram slot.
(And the gold plated contact pins on the ram memory module)

To replace line the ram memory module up at the angle you removed the old one.
Slide it down in the ram slot.

Then gently spread the metal clips, and ensure they are seated in the notches at each end of the ram memory module.

Seem to have been a power surge how can i prevent another one and could i claim through house insurence

The only thing I can suggest for this is to take and unplug the charger from the laptop (not at the wall) and turn over the laptop and remove the battery. There should be one/two little plastic tabs near the battery that can be moved one way to release the battery. If there is two one generally is just a lock on and the other has a spring loaded tab to hold it in place.

Aser 7520 aspire

If you have no video at all then turn off the laptop. Reseat the memory and then turn the laptop back on with just the AC Adaptor hooked up to see if you get video if not then try reseating the memory into the other slot and try turning it on again to see if you get video. If not then your motherboard may be bad. Just curious though after you turn on the laptop, does the hard drive light keep flickering like its trying to load windows?

Ram Memory

I did this 2 days ago on my gf's aspire 5315-2153 (walmart special $348). the underside panel has four tiny screws which must be removed and then the fun begins. The plastic panel is large and doesn't want to be removed. After 20 minutes of cursing, i was able to get it out with two hands and a small screwdriver. The plastic panel has about 7-8 tabs which also hold it in place. The original two memory modules must be removed and the two new ones installed in their place. i bought crucial memory from (CT2KIT12864AC667) for $17 delivered (took a week to get) which was much cheaper than buying it direct from Save the old memory modules just in case you have a problem with the new ones. After putting them in, I restarted the computer and it booted up fine. No BIOS changes or any of that were necessary. So for $17 and about 30 minutes, this lappy is now running strong with 2gb instead of 1gb. Initial impression is that it boots up faster and shuts down faster but that is about it in terms of improvement!!!
