  1. Place lock cylinder in RUN position.

Do not remove the ignition key buzzer.
  1. Insert a small drift pin into the turn signal housing slot. Keeping the drift pin to the right side of the slot, break the housing flash loose and depress the spring latch at the lower end of the lock cylinder. Remove the lock cylinder.

WARNING Considerable force may be necessary to break this casting flash, but be careful not to damage any other parts. When ordering a new lock cylinder, specify a cylinder assembly. This will save assembling the cylinder, washer, sleeve and adapter.

The ignition switch is hanging up in my 1990 ford bronco,

I just had that same problem on a silverado. Yes, you have to replace the switch. Autozone has a tool you can use to remove the steering wheel. If you are not mechanically inclinced you can still do this. Removing the steering wheel sounds scary, or at least it did to me, but it wasnt bad at all.

Shift indicator off on a chevy silv 1500

The problem is your ignition switch. It is located in the steering column. You have to remove the column covers to gain access to the switch. You don`t have to remove the steering wheel but some do to get better access.Buy the switch first so you know what it looks like and you know what to look for. After removal of the switch make sure that the plastic gears on the new switch line up the same as the old one. Also make sure that the shifter is in park before removing the switch. You should also disconnect the battery and wait a 1/2 hr.before you start.Be careful because the horn ring is going to make contact with the switch. You also have to be aware of static electricity because of the air bag inflator module on the steering wheel.Hope this helps.Good luck.

How do you take a ignition switch out of a 1977 chevy pickup with a non tilt steering column?

Pop the center out of the wheel, disconnect the horn. Remove the big nut. Use steering wheel puller to remove wheel.

DC horn wiring again, remove plastic cover. Depress lock plate and remove circlip. DO NOT LOOSE. remove lock plate. some have a small 3/16 allen screw holding key tumbler in others have a flat spring to depress.

If the actual switch (not lock cyl) is bad you will have to lower the colum from the dash Remove screws (4) holding te plastic piece under the colum2 bolts it will swing down and allow access to the ignition Sw, top side of the colum.

Hoe to remove the ignition switch in 05 ram 1500

Step1 Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal on the battery. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers by unscrewing or unclipping them. Step2 Remove the steering wheel by lifting off the center cover, disconnecting the horn wire and removing the retaining nut and washer. Make a mark on the steering wheel spline and the wheel itself so you can line it back up precisely. Pull the steering wheel straight back to remove from the shaft. Step3 Take off windshield wiper and turn signal switches by pulling them off as you did the steering wheelmag-glass_10x10.gif and disconnect the wiring. Slide the spacer sleeve off of the steering column. Step4 Unscrew the ignition switch mounting screws. Pull out the ignition switch. Disconnect the wiring connector from back of the ignition switch. Simply loosen the tabs and pull it out. Step5 Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the ignition switch to the locked position. Depress the retaining pin with a small screwdriver and turn the key to the Off position to free the cylinder. Once it is free, turn the key to lock position and remove the key and key cylinder. Step6 Install your old key cylinder into the new ignition switch assembly. Make sure the contacts in the cylinder and assembly line up. Reattach wiring to ignition switch, slide it into place, screw in mounting screws and reassemble steering wheel and switches.
