I can press the play button to review my saved pictures on the memory card, and the battery is fully charged, so that isn't the problem. My cmera has the same problem I dropped it and now I switch on screen appears for a split second but lens refuses to come out.

It is better to put the camera on service center and get a professional do the work.. it is not advisable that you will re assemble and try to fix that thing if you don't have any professional background troubleshooting the unit.

Try removing the battery for a couple of minutes and then plug it back in. When it was dropped was the lense sticking out? If so it may have jammed. You can try resetting it by taking the battery out for a couple of minutes and then putting it back in. If that does not work take a look at it when you turn it on and check and see if the motor is hanging up when the lense trys to adjust. If this is the case you will need to have the camera serviced. Good luck and if you found this solution helpful please rate it when you get a chance. Thanks - Tech101

Typically this means that the sensor that let's the camera know you are ready to take a picture has been damaged. You will need a technician to look at this to see if it can be repaired.

I have a Canon PowerShot A430 camera. When I turn it on, the lens doesn't open and it shuts off. The message on the screen says " Lens error, restart camera." Please advise. Thanks

Hi,

The Lens Error is displayed on the LCD screen when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.
Performing a manual power reset
Turn off the camera.
Remove the battery pack.
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.
Reinsert the battery pack.
Turn on the camera.
You can reset the Camera back to factory default by performing the following steps:
Press the power button.
Press and hold the MENU button for more than 5 seconds. Default Settings will get displayed.
Use the arrow buttons to select OK and press the FUNC./SET button. This will reset all the settings back to factory deafult.
This should resolve the issue. If the issue persists, service may be required.

Camera starts, but shuts off immediately afterwards

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

sounds like a battery power problem or problem with the terminal of the camera ; you know the point where the battery meets the camera.
I would recommend a service center

My optio t10 did basically the same thing...turned on, lens goes out, then automatically shut off. I took the advice of a solution listed here for another problem...hit the camera. For whatever reason it worked.
