Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

I have a Samsung LN52A650 LCD TV. The TV occasionally is unresponsive to the remote. The TV itself is receiving a command and acknowledging it by a beep and a red light but nothing happens. The TV has also turned the volume all the way down on its own even with the batteries removed from the remote. When I unplug the TV as Samsung has instructed but the problem comes back. The problem doesn't happen consistently. I have no idea what frequency the remote operates at or if anything in my house could interfere with the operation of the TV.Other than this small annoyance the picture itself is supperb!!

I'm going to assume that this is a relatively new set and that hte warranty is still in effect. Request warranty service, this symptom suggests either a logic problem in the microprocessor or perhaps just a power supply problem. In either case, this will not be an easy problem to find. One thing that would help is to see if there is any pattern to when this occurs. For example, doe sthe set need to be on for a long time before this shows up? Any info along that line will be helpful to the servicer.

Keep us posted.

Samsung lcd tv can't find a source, buttons on remote control don't respond, nor buttons on the control panel on the right side of the TV device

consult the owner manual or call Samsung---this set likely has a lockout feature that locks both the remote and the keyboard out.

You might also want to research this by taking the model number and Google key words "remote lockout" etc.

Samsung hcm4216W turned off by itself loops.

Instead of typing model number of your TV (that located on right hand side and on the back of TV) you published here part number of your TV's remote control. LOL.
Anyway... If it is LCD/plasma panel that you talking about - than power supply have bad electrolytic capacitors that have to be replaced. You can recognize 'em by bulged/swollen tops (instead of flat tops of good capacitors).
This repair required soldering skills.

With a non responsive remote that would be inpossiable you need to replace the control board inside around $100 bucks then you can have a good tv again but to get to the service menu your controll has to be working.

Magnavox 42 LCD 42mf438b/f7 turns on/off by itself

Mine was doing the same thing. Update the firmware and it fixes the problem. Updating the firmware is done by downloading the file to a thumb-drive from the phillips product support page then plugging in the drive into the side of your television and turning it on. See your manual for slightly better instructions.

Tv switches off after 5 mins

There might be three or more reasons for this:
1) The sleep timer may be on causing the TV to turn off after a preset time.
2) If sleep timer is on and no signal from the remote is received for a preset time (Samsung: 15 minutes) the tv will turn itself off.
3) The TV may have been turned on automaticaly with "On Timer". If so, and no signal is received for a preset time (Samsung: 3 hours) the tv will turn itself off.
4) A fan is not working or a vent is blocked causing the TV to overheat and turn off.
For 1) thru 3), go to the "setup" menu and make sure "sleep timer" and "On Timer" are turned off.

In the menu you should find an option to program the channels. Occasionally you have to reprogram them as I do on my own samsung and the ones I repair.
