Hp officejet 6210 problem

Hi its me again!
first, once again i would like to say thank you very much for your time helping me!!
i checked my usb cable and the ports themselves and reconnected it and my cpu responded to the plugging in like you said so i sent a print but it didnt work. so i tried a different usb cable and a different port and when i plugged it in and my computer responded to it and a little icon came up on the shortcut menu in the bottom right of the screen and said it was "installing or checking" or something. i waited a minute and clicked it and it said "your new device is ready." i sent a print and a little menu always pops up you know asking how many copies .ect and it has a list of my old printer and fax where you can select which device you want to send the print command to and the hp officejet 6200 series icon had a little green checkmark on it (im guessing that is windows saying the device has been checked and its safe) so i think my cpu recognized the printer when i plugged in the new usb cable. so it seem (to the untrained eye) that the computer is receiving info from my printer (since it know what type of printer and it was safe) but my printer isnt receiving any info. i checked the queue again and again the print command came up for only a second.
thanks again!!
tim s.

i am just printing a page on the web using internet explorer. you see i sell on ebay (not that you care but to let you know what i print maybe its important??) so i print alot of shipping labels via usps.com so i have basically only printed receipts for shipping labels or shipping labels themselves. plain, text only, no color pages. (as a matter of fact i am, and have always since i got the printer, been out of colored ink. i only have black ink that has ink in it. i still have the color cartridge installed even though its empty) i use an compaq cpu w/windows vista operating system. after reading your question i tried sending a print typing a sentence or 2 on my notepad but the printer didnt respond.

kim_cu i cant say it enough thanks for your time/help!!

    hi

i do have internet explorer 7. when i click on the "page setup" their isnt an option for "printer...". it only allows me to change the size of the paper, headers, .ect. it does have "source" as an option but only "automatic selcet" comes out of the dropdown menu but when i click it it doesnt do anything. so i went to control panel and then selected "printers". the printer is listed there. (well it says hp officejet 6200 series) when i do click on print and send a print command a pop up comes up asking # of pages .ect and it has a list of my old and current printers and the printer is listed there. i have to click it before it actually sends the print command (im sure your like "duh!"). i did after the menu you asked me to go to didnt have "printer...." on the list click on help selection. then "contents and index" then typed "printers" in the search box, then "add or remove printer". but then it wanted to know which port it was in and i didnt know the exact #'d port it was connected to the cpu in. i couldnt find my manual for the computer to tell me which port it was, or where it was listed in the cpu so it was a dead end.

i did already have it set to "black and white only".

    thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hmmm...ok...let's try something else...

Do you have any other programs that you can test the printer with...word processing, spreadsheet, presentation?

What application or program are you using to test with?

Ok...now we are getting somewhere.

Check "Help" and "About Internet Explorer" You should see a big "7" as the version. If not then we can worry about that later. The solution I'm going to give relates only to "7".

Look on the right top of the IExplorer window. See the printer icon? click on the tiny black arrow next to it and pick "Page Setup" out of the list.

Click the "Printer..." button and make sure it has your printer listed. Then click on the "Properties" for your printer and find "black and white only" or "grayscale" then ok.

Try your print again from the Internet.

Another "gotcha" from hp. Some of their printers (evidently not this one) will refuse to print anything if one of the cartridges is missing or out of ink. You might just have to buy another color cartridge and everything will be fine. :)

You need to delete any printer that you are no longer using.

    The default "port"...if it asks...is "LPT1:"

It could also be listed as "PRN:"

My HP Officejet 6210 has a message reading "Remove

Check that the HP all-in-one print queue is not paused (Windows) or stopped (Macintosh). If it is, choose the appropriate setting to resume printing. For more information about accessing the print queue, see the documentation that came with the operating system installed on your computer.
Check the USB cable. If you are using an older cable, it might not be working properly. Try connecting it to another product to see if the USB cable works. If you experience problems, the USB cable might need to be replaced. Also verify that the cable does not exceed 3 meters (9.8 feet) in length.

Hi,

The USB cable is available in any departmental store ( like bestbuy, walmart etc ) or computer sales firm.
Ask for USB 2.0 cable as it is compatible with the printer and your laptop.

HP OfficeJet 6210 All-In-One and Windows Vista

Un-install the printer from the computer using Add/Remove programs from the control panel.

Disconnect the USB cable that connects the printer to the computer.

Go to HP's web site and download the VISTA drivers and install them. When prompted connect the USB cable and wait for the setup to finish.

If the printer still does not function you will need to check with HP technical support as they are still updating some of their software to be FULLY COMPATIBLE with Vista.
