You may need to open the DVD rom drive after you have opened the 360 case. (check llama.com for guide on how to do) and remove the tray and you will see a white sliding bar. This serves to 'latch' the drive in so that the laser can enagage. If it doesnt latch properly then it will eject.
I adjusted this part to the main black cog before sliding back in.
It did the trick for me...be careful though opening both the 360 and the drive as it's tricky. Do your research....

Well you may be having disk tray issues, sure hope so as compared to a burnt out lens module, try ejecting the tray fully and wiping all dust off around the grooves under the tray, one more tip is to keep a disk in the drive at all times, even when you aint playing it, you can also try giving it a gentle tap on the front pat where the disk tray is located any time you eject it or push the tray back in, come to think about it if you are fond of pushing the tray in after inserting a disc, stop cos it weakens the motor that drives the ejecting process, hope this helps...
Hi,the most common reason for the Games not reading discs is a bad drive. The following website sells the drives and does installs:
This drive should fix any reading issues you are having with your games, or issues inserting your games or ejecting them (or lack thereof). This is the entire DVD drive assembly mechanism replacement for your game including a new laser. If your discs are not ejecting, or you cannot insert a disc -- or you can insert a disc but it will not load, this is what you need to get your game going again!
1, the disc may be dirty 2. the mian reason for this your xbox drive
cannot read the disc , because the power of the lens is gone(not
1. keep your disc inside the drive
and switch off the console, again swith on try this 2 to 3 time 2.
keep the console in vertical position or little slanding position(180
dg) make sure it does not fall
3. its better to buy hatddisc and
load the game inside it , so that u lens life increased
Power your unit off using the button. when it's off unplug the
power source from the back of the XBOX and leave it out for 30 sec.
Reconnect the power source and reboot your machine. Try the disc tray
again. If it doesn't work try giving it a tap or a solid knock on the
top of the case above the disc tray while it's trying to open. Don't
drop the machine or try to pry the tray open. If it doesn't open when
you tap it then try light pressure on the front of the tray while it's
trying to open. (you can tell it's trying to open because the disc
status on the screen will say opening...)
Now if the above did not work Get a straightened paper clip. Remove the faceplate carefully starting from the indention that you will see on the side After removing the faceplate, look for a pinhole just below the disc tray. *There are two pinholes just below the cover of the disc tray and one pinhole below the X and B of XBOX logo. *You can try any of the three holes *Pinholes are so small that the girth of the paper clip is the only object that can fit through the pinhole.
Now insert the paper clip into the pinhole then put a little pressure until the disc opens.
If it opens try to close it, if it closes try opening it again, if it wont open the second time then it need to be serviced If it opens try to close it, if it wont close try nudging the disc to the right and then to the left, if nudging doesnt then it need service If it wont open after trying all three pinholes - its needs service
It may be jammed or the drive gear stripped.

This happens to me every now and then. Here is how you can get around it:
Sometimes, you cannot open the disc tray on your Xbox 360 console by
pressing the eject button. Any of the following things may cause this
There is a hardware failure that affects the console, the disk drive, or the eject button.

Depending on the kind of disk drive that you have in your Xbox 360 console, you can use one of the following methods.
In each case, make sure that you align the tool (a paper clip or stiff
wire) to pass through another notch behind the hole on the console

Insert a straightened paper clip or other small, stiff wire into the
first hole from the left side of the disc tray. To release the disc
tray, push the paper clip into the hole to press the manual eject
mechanism. The manual eject mechanism is a white lever that is visible
behind the console casing. The hole is located about 1.5 inches
(approximately 4 centimeters) from the left edge of the disc tray.
Insert a straightened paper clip or other small, stiff wire into the
second hole from the left side of the disc tray. Push the paper clip
repeatedly into the hole to turn a gear to release the disc tray. The
hole is located about 1.5 inches (approximately 4 centimeters) from the
left edge of the disc tray.
Method C: Insert a
straightened paper clip or other small, stiff wire into the hole that
is directly under the "X3" logo on the Xbox 360 label on the disc tray
to release the disc tray. The hole is located about 1 inch from the
right edge of the disc tray.
After you release the disc tray, the tray pops out slightly. You can pull the tray out the rest of the way to remove the disc.
Note If you use method A or Method C in step 4, you may have to firmly press the disc eject mechanism to eject the disc tray.
you determine that a hardware failure has occurred that affects your
Xbox console, contact Xbox Customer Support or submit a repair request
for your Xbox 360 console.

if there is a format disc error, it says "Please insert a Playstation
or Playstation 2 format disc." It is accompanied by a sound similar to
the browser, but with a more tense noise. This is caused by a disc
being so badly scratched that it completely fails to recognise the
format, or if there is a problem with the laser.
Auto-Diagnosis (PlayStation 2 system)1. Turn on the system without a disc inside.2. Once at the Main Menu, press the triangle button to enter the Version Information Screen.3. Highlight the "Console" option, and then press the triangle button again.4. Next, press the X button, highlight "On", and then press the X button once more.5. Now press the circle button twice to return to the Main Menu.6. Press the eject button on the front of the console, and insert a disc.7. Now close the disc tray, but DO NOT reset the system.8. Highlight the Browser option from the Main Menu, and then press the X button.9.
In the Browser, an icon of the disc should appear on the screen.
Highlight this icon, and then press the X button to read the disc.10. If the auto-diagnosis is successful, the disc should load properly at this point.NOTE: The auto-diagnosis feature will return to "Off" the next time a disc is inserted.
Bad Cdrom/dvd The laser going bad is a pretty common issue with the drives, since it's a Hitachi that spindle motor could be all gunked up with dirt as well and cause that issue also.
if ya have a Hitachi, if it's a Samsung it could just be the laser. http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/xbox_dvd_repair.htm
