There is not much you can do on your own to fix this you would have to bring the laptop in and they would have to open it up and locate the cmos battery and reset it, you can also try takeing the laptop battery out and leaving the laptop away from both its power sourses for 24 hours, hope this helps. tech trainer for big companys

Lost password

theres like three different kinds of passwords on these laptops i believe.. do you see a lock on a black screen? if you do, thats a bios password. itd be kinda difficult to remove it, you need to create a password reader.. then delete it using another computer.. either that or unsolder the correct chip and resolder another one, you can find these on ebay.. i dont recommend u to do it if youre unexperienced with hardware.. check out this link

IBM Thinkpad T-30 2366 QU-5 Padlock appears on scree. I cannot do anything. How is this unlocked? Please help.

You have a Power on Password. The correct password has to be entered before the laptop will bootup. The password is set to prevent unauthorized access to the laptop.
Did you purchase this laptop from someone? If so get the password from them. There is no backdoor password and the password is stored on an EEPROM chip so removing the BIOS battery will not reset the BIOS and remove the password.

My IBM Thinkpad is not switching on?

The error message relates to the date and time setting in the BIOS, it has a wrong due to a flat BIOS battery. The needs to be replaced and the date and time corrected,
The padlock symbol indicates the laptop's BIOS has been set with a password and you cannot enter and change the BIOS settings without this password.

Replace the BIOS battery with a new one, then boot up and enter your BIOS password, then change the time & date, then save and exit.

IBM T21 NEW MOTHERBOARD PASSWORD PROBLEM

Break BIOS Password
A user may also put a BIOS password preventing you to even enter the system but if you wish to access the system do not worry we you can still do it. However, I only recommend this trick for your own personal use.

What is BIOS?
Bios stands for Basic Input Output System and is a firmware code run by a PC when first powered on, which is a type of boot loader. The primary function of the BIOS is to identify and initialize system component hardware (such as the video display card, hard disk, and floppy).

How to Break a BIOS Password?

The following steps work absolutely fine for a Desktop and are the easiest of all.
Steps:
• Shut down the computer and take out all the plugs connected to electricity.
• Open up the CPU cabinet and locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard (it will be a silver circular battery just like a button cell).

Remove the battery and keep it out for some 2-3 minutes as this will flush out the CMOS memory which stores the BIOS password and all other configurations.

• Now place the battery back and start the computer normally.

Steps for Laptop:

• Open up the BIOS at the time of booting.

• There are some backdoor passwords which the manufacturing company had set that will be accepted by the BIOS. You will just need to know the make of your BIOS. Try out the passwords from these lists.
List of Award BIOS backdoor passwords:
BIOSTAR, AWARD_SW, AWARD SW, AWARD PW, CONDO, LKWPETER, J262, 01322222
List of AMI BIOS backdoor passwords:
AMI, AAAMMMIII, BIOS, PASSWORD, A.M.I., CONDO
List of PHOENIX BIOS backdoor passwords:
phoenix, PHOENIX, CMOS, BIOS

Laptop is locked out

This works great
Forgotten Power-on password
If the Power-on password is forgotten
and the Supervisor password is known,
simply go into the ThinkPad BIOS setup
utility and reset the Power-on password,
otherwise try the following:
Turn off the computer.
Remove the battery pack.
Remove the backup battery. This is
located under the battery.
Turn on the computer and wait until the
POST ends. After the POST ends, the
password prompt does not appear. The POP
has been removed.
Reinstall the backup battery and the
battery pack.
Note: Some ThinkPad systems have the
ability to reset the Power-on passwords
in the ThinkPad BIOS setup utility if a
Supervisor password has been set.
