High HC means moisture in the system. Try driving it longer then take it to the smog shop. Otherwise it could be hard like a head gasket or easy such as a PCV not functioning. Any ways you should always drive it about 20 miles before smog check, longer when the weather is cold.

Smog failure High HC's only issue

Hydrocarbons (HCs) are unburned fuel. You may need to replace sparkplugs and wires, if this has been done or doesn't fix the problem you catalytic converter may be worn out.

I rebuilt the TBI, Changed every sensor in the truck and replaced the heads. I still cannot pass the CA smog test

Check everything that is connected to a vacuum line, check the CAT and the injectors and last run a compression test.

My 92 GMC failed smog only in the HC area. CA emissions requires max118 at 15mph and mine was 123, max at 25mph is 98 and mine was 97. What could it be?

sounds dumb but here in maryland people with older vehicles have problems passing emissions test. sometimes fresh oil change can help also possibly vehicle is in need of a tune up including plugs wire cap rotor pcv valve and fuel filter. one other thing could be the catalyst converter might not be cleaning to its full potential. hope this helps

Fail smog test

fist i would like you to post the year make and model of the truck along with the HC ppms and NOX ppm it would be very helpful but high hc and nox can be attributed to a faulty EGR system nox is produced when the combustion chamber temperature gets too high so a small amount of exhaust is cycled back into the air stream to help cool them there are other causes but without looking at the levels its much harder to say

My 1994 Toyota pickup is showing code 25, and I am passed due for my CA smog test. How can I get my truck to pass smog?

The code 25 is an O2 sesnor code lean condition, the problem is usually not the sensor but another problem, it can be caused by an engine misfire, if that's the case the cause for the misfire has to be corrected first.

I have a 92 toyota paseo with auto trans it runs fine cold after it warms up its sluggish, idle goes up and down, it wont pass smog due to double the hydrocarbons

check for a vacuum leak. open the hood, you should be able to hear a hissing sound. track down that sound and repair it.

Failed smog

We had to have the calatic converter replaced. We did this after doing an oil change, air filter change, and new spark plugs and still hadn't passed smog. After changing the calatic converter it passed smog with scores of 25.

Failed Smog Test Close to CA-HC Limits

You can try some over the counter solutions per say. Some of the mechanics in a bottle. They sell some products This will probably be the cheapest router. If this doesn't work then you need repairs.

Pass your emissions test.

High hc

you may need replace the catalytic converter, but 1st do this, clean the throttle body and idle airbypass valve, change the oil before the retest as well, get it as hot as you can before the test, hold it at a high idle prior to the test, this may squeak you by, as a 20 year smog tech these are the thing I did, if all else fails do the cat conv.
