My canon G7 is about a year old. It made a funny sound when I turned it off. Since then it will not turn on. The battery shows 9.2 volts (I cant test it under load).

I have the same problem. I was using the camera to review some photos and it shut off. I thought that the battery was low so I put in another fully charged battery. It still won't turn on.

I have a Canon G7. It won't turn on, the battery is fully charged and still won't turn on. When I tried turning it on the other day it made a wierd sound.

I was shooting, then the camera powered off without retracting the lenses; I thought it was a battery issue, but after full loading, the camera doesn't turn on (removing the SD card doesn't cahnge anything).

This is a common no power problem on the G7 and the G9, camera most likely has loose screws inside. If you need to have one of these serviced, try this site: They just service the Canon Powershots exclusively and they are terrific for help with these. Even though many stores will tell you the camera can't be fixed or it will be too expensive, don't waste money on a new camera. The G7 is an amazing camera and for $89 that site fixes the problem, does the internal correction so the screws don't get loose again, they include the repair, parts, labor and shipping back all for $89 all in, a tough deal to beat and they do amazing work on these Canons. Good luck to those that have this problem, that site is terrific if you need to revive one of these cameras with this no power problem.

I had the same problem - all of a sudden my G7 wouldn't turn on. I was at a loss and was resigned to a huge repair bill or simply replacing it, until today when I took out the SD card (sandisk 4gb) to use in another camera (Casio Exilim) - and the same thing happened with that one! It wouldn't power up at all - when earlier that day it was working fine with a different SD card. So obviously it was a faulty SD card. Once I'd put a different card into the G7 and put in a fresh battery, it started working again! I am so relieved. Hopefully this might help others.

OMG!!!! I was resigned to use my G7 as a $600.00 paperweight- until I saw your post. Even the local camera store could not get it to work. I just found the original card, took out the bigger one I had replaced it with years ago, put in another battery, and it came on. Who knows if it will keep working, but it is better than it was!
Thank you so much for posting this where anyone can use it.

Cannot turn on the camera even change a fully charged battery or through USB cable

Its not a problem with the battery, the G7 and the G9 have a problem where a loose screw inside the camera shorts it out and causes it to not power. The repair service is about $85 total for a new part, installation and return shipping of the camera!

Wont turn on

Did you recently purchase this model, or have you owned it for a while? Has this happened to you before or is this the first time you have experienced this issue?

I can tell you, as an Avid Nikon user..which isnt much different from Canon since they are huge competitors of each other..that this might be a defective battery. I'd recomend contacting the manufacturer or seeking on their website, if they list it, as I know nikon does, and see if there are a select serial number and manufacturer dates on a battery for your model. Nikon had this for their D50 and you might also want to make sure the same thing didnt happen to yours..chances are they might of shared the same OEM battery..

let me know how that goes. We can work on other steps as well...

G7 just dead. can't turn on power. check battery

These G7 powershot cameras sometimes get a short from a loose screw which often leaves the camera with no power. You'll want to have it fixed but with a place that knows of the problem and does the correction inside the camera so that it doesn't keep happening. The place that just does powershots and they do amazing work on these cameras is: They charge about half of what canon wants to fix this problem and the include the service and the correction to the screws inside so it won't keep happening. It's $89 for everything with them, a great deal and they do superb work on these cameras.

Canon Powershot G7 just wont turn on... for no reason I can tell.

Usually you can't hear the loose screws in these when they fall out and short out the camera, although many people will say you can. When you have no power on a G7 or a G9, it is most always that loose screw problem. The screws inside should be corrected at the time of the repair so the problem doesn't happen again later. The site that is great for help with the Canon Powershot Camera problems is: They are great with these and that is all they specialize in. I would see if they can help, they're amazing if you need a hand with the Powershots, plus they do that no power correction on all G7 and G9's they service which I like. Good luck with it

Cannon G7 need help

Had the same problem a few months ago. There was a high pitchedwhisltle and I think the screen said "lens fault.turn off camera" or something similar.Bought a G9 to replace as the 7 was out of guarantee but sent the 9 back to the e-bay reseller as it was obviously secondhand with grit around the lens ring and the viewfinder.Ebay never again!.So 3 months ago ago I tried the G7 again with a fresh charged battery before I consigned the camera to the loft.I noticed that each time i switched on the whistle and message was there but the lens extended slightly further each timeso I kept rebooting until the lens was fully extended.Turned the camera off and on again and everything was back to normal. It seems that this may be Canons protocol when a camera goes back. Its been absolutely fine until today. It wont boot up at all.I have tried 2 fresh charged batteries and its dead.Any ideas anyone?

Powershot G7 Camera won't turn on.

Same issue happened on Saturday. Only difference was the lens cover didn't completely shut when I tried to turn it off. I turned it on then off again and the cover shut....but it wouldn't turn back on. I fully charged the battery, but nothing. Tried two different batteries.

I was going to take mine in today to Wolf Camera in CO where I bought it.

Note that the camera was fully cleaned and and a new lense added less than a month ago by Canon (through the warranty program through Wolf)

Did anyone get any feedback?

Wont turn on

It may be the SD memory card causing the problem. I just bought a G7. When I turned it on without an SD card, no problem. I put it my old cheap SD card and it wont turn on. I take out the memory card and battery, then insert the Canon SD card and battery and turn it on, no problem.
Hope this helps someone.
