Question about Kodak Carousel 4600 Slide Projector

1 Answer

No light The light doesn't come on when the unit is powered up. The bulb seems to be fine. Is there any other check that can be done to isolate the problem? The fan is working on powering up.

If you know someone else that has a projector of that vintage, try swapping lamp modules! The lamp socket that the lamp seats in can build up material from arcing on the contacts and that material insulates the contact surface from the lamp pins. There are still parts (lamp sockets) available (www.micro-tools.com), but it may be more of a repair than you want to undertake. Consider buying a new lamp module on the web or finding a factory-trained repair dealer to make the repair. Good Luck !!

How do i remove the bulb from a gaf 2100r slide projector

The bulb pulls out. You don't want to twist it, because it is seated with one big pin in the middle and four smaller ones around it. The big pin in the middle has a fin on it, to make sure you get the others in their right places.
To get the old one out, you want to remove the metal housing for the lens that surrounds the bulbs. Pinch the sides that are next to the open end of the housing a little bit and jiggle it. It'll come out fairly easy. Once that is out of the way, you can get a good grip on the bulb and pull it straight out.
As for new bulbs, you can find them on the Internet. The best price I last saw was for $27.

Neither of the "trademarks" you mention were used by Kodak, so the lens must be a non-Kodak lens. First of all, remove the lens and look along its side - it should have a rectangular "rack" (dimensions of the "rack" are roughly 1/2 inch by 3 1/4 inches) with gear teeth that will connect with the corresponding gear (inside the projector) on the focus knob shaft. If the lens does not have this "rack", then you should try to find a lens that does. (One source for lenses is www.VineValleyImaging.com). Verify that the lens is on the focus knob shaft and does not appear to be damaged. If the gear on the focus shaft is damaged (or slipping) you will need to contact a Authorized Repair Dealer to see if parts are still available for your specific model. Let me know if you need anything else! Good Luck !! Jim

Got projector out after several years of non use. Lamp would not light. We purchased a new bulb and installed it. Still doesn't work. Fan runs and all, but bulb will not light.

Check the internal power and lamp fuse. Sometimes, when a projector is stored, an area of corrosion develops around the lamp pins and lamp holder. If you carefully clean both the holder and the pins on the original lamp you may find it works OK!

Projector powers on but bulb doesn't light up. Changed bulb, still doesn't work. Tried original bulb in other projector, works fine.

If you feel that it is working abnormally you can send it to service. In the USA Braun service is: HP Marketing Corp. PO Box 715 16 Chapin Rd. Unit 908 Pine Brook, NJ 07058 800-735-4373
Otherwise contact the service center in your country.

Kodak 750h slide projector; brand new bulb, but it won't turn on/light up? Could it be the lamp socket? I did open the machine up, and there is a ceramic part; thermal fuse? resitor? or Solenoid??? Not...

If the lamp is new, then your problem is caused either by the lamp socket that the lamp slides into, or the lamp thermal fuse.
The white part over the fan is a dropping resistor, which allows the projector to operate in the "LOW LAMP" position of the power switch.
A factory-trained service dealer can help you locate the parts or (better suggestion) isolate & repair your projector.

Projector light does not shine. (Power is on, bulb

I will assume from your description that the projector is powered on and you can look in the rear vents and see the lamp illuminated, yet the light does not shine on the screen.
The Ektapro 9020 and most of the Ektagraphic line of projectors are equipped with a "dark shutter". What that does is keep the screen dark unless a slide drops into the gate. At that time the sensing circuits trigger and open the shutter, allowing light through the slide & onto the screen.

Jason's analysis above is correct! You can order the Thermal Fuses and Lamps (if you need them) from: www.micro-tools.com

Light won't come on, replaced old light bulb.

First, check to see if the lamp lights at all (spill light coming out of the projector near the fan). If it does, then the problem could be just the "dark shutter" not opening. If the lamp does not light, it could be a couple of things: it could be the lamp thermal fuse has opened or it could be a bad lamp socket.
Sounds like you need to seek out a factory-trained repair dealer for this one, to narrow down the possibilities!
