LA probably uses a trunked system or APCO 25, you can find out more at www.radioreference.com go to the data base and click on california, then click on the county and it should tell you the frequencies and which systems they use.

Can you make a Uniden Bearcat BC 147xlt recieve cell phones

in short the answer is no. The frequency range of the receiver is
BC147XLT 29-54 136-174 406-512 FM in MHZ
The mod you are talking about would require
wiring and interfacing new receiver circuitry
to place the unit in the 800-900 mhz range.
Most cell phones now are encrypted within a data
type stream so they cannot be heard. Also it is
not legal to monitor Cellular frequency's. I hope
that helps.

To get celluar frequencies on bc350c 800mhz 100 channel scanner.

Jason,

You can no longer listen to cell phones with police scanners as all cell phones are now digital. Years ago when cell phones were using the 800mhz band it was possible. But only with select older models of scanners such as the BC-200XLT and after an internal modification to allow tuning of 860-880 mhz range. I do believe there is equipment out there that can listen to digital cell phones but its very expensive ($10,000) and only for law enforcement use. Hope this answers your question.

I have a Radio Shack Pro 96 scanner -can't get south medic band

Hi. Radio Shack is good for a lot of things. Frequencies are not one of them. Go to the site below and you will find ACCURATE frequencies or "codes" as you refer to them. As far as programming that particular radio I would have to have it in my hands to program it. Good luck. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/

I have a new BC72XLT that I recieved as a gift. I have tried to program in the local frequencies but still have not been able to get one in. I have read the instruction book a hundred times. Can anyone me...

If you know the freq. codes, push hold, the bank number you want to store it in, push func., then push E(for program), type in the code(this includes the decimal), then push E. DLY will show up for a delay if there's not a transmission on the freq.

I have uploaded a pdf format manual for you if you do not have this.

http://files.hpifdesigns.com/pdf/bcd996Tom.pdf

also I hear there is a cd that comes with it too this might be handy to locate as well.

if you are wanting police frequencies please do a search for them on google.com eg. "las vegas police frequencies" ect and you should find alot of codes for your area.

Talkgroups and control channel problems?

No, you are not programming it wrong. The reason it is picking up all the active talkgroups is because the bank is "open". Hit manual like you are going to program a frequency in. Go to the particular bank in question and hit the function , 5. The display should say bank closed. This will "close" the bank and only allow the talkgroups you have programmed thru. To "open" the bank back up to recieve all frequencies do the same thing again. Function, 5. If you have any other questions email me at josephnshelby@aol.com and I will be glad to help.

Scanning

The problem could be your location, altitude, antenna, or wrong frequencies for your area. Here's a link to Radio Reference where you can check their database for active frequencies in your area.
