Bummer. I don't know specifically where the audio head is located on that deck but it probably can be fixed by taking a very tiny philips screwdriver at the base of it and adjusting the head by turning the screw.

This service manual can shed the light on it:

JVC GR-DVL310 minDV camera plays with Red stripes or bars accross video..

You probably got a piece of q-tip stuck in the video head. try to run a chamos stick over the small pickups at the base of the drum from side to side, never up and down and you should be able to clean out the residue and fix your problem.

Audio is cutting out on playback

You did every thing right. Audio is effected by clogged video heads and the audio circuit. At this time, you might look at the service by professionals. 50% chance the audio problem could be resolved by cleaning video heads and tape path without much adjustment, you cost would be around $100-150. If this does not resolve the issuie, Camcorder need repair and would run $250-400 for GL2 model. Good luck. -James. For further assistance by email, go to www.camerarepairjapan.com

Switched back and forth between SP and LP in playback

The control track on the tape is not being sensed properly, or there may be a fault in the capston circuit, or capston drive.

There are a number of issues that can cause this:

This can be a dirt film on the control track head, or the main video drum heads, or warn head surfaces. It may also be an alignment problem due to warn parts. The electronics that read and process the control track, or video synchronization processing may have a fault.

The first thing you can do as a user is to clean the tape path. It is safest and usualy works well to use a cleaning tape for your camera type. Follow the instructions for the cleaning tape. The cleaning tape has a surface on it that is supposed to clean the head surfaces without causing a disturbance. Usualy the time required is about 5 to 10 seconds, depending on the model of the camera and the type of tape format.

Read the instructions that comes with the cleaning tape. It is not recomended to re-wind and re-use this tape.

Past this point, the camera will have to be serviced.
