Rca d40w20 rear projection tv with popping noise

I had this tv for a year and then a random popping noise and a flicker of the picture would happen at the same time very randomly. never could get it to reproduce consistantly. I have had 3 technician calls and they replaced a high voltage board twice and the third time the tech stated to leave off the front cover and pay attention to which of the 3 tubes flicker when the popping noise happens. reluctantly I did it but could never see which tube did it because it happened so randomly. that repair company gave up.
anyone else having this problem. its just never consistant, would happen 3 times in one day then never happen for a while then would pop again. luckly i bought a 3 year warranty (has paid for itself) and its up in august and would like to get this fixed!!!

It sounds as if you have a grid to anode short that is inconsistent. I would try to get the warranty company to just go ahead and replace all three tubes and be done with it. But, this is only my opinion, and past experiences with these sets. An aside; the more brightness level you ask of the tubes, the more this can be aggravated, as a general rule. Try different sources and program content and see if this is the case. Those scenes with more luminance (brightness) will stress the tubes more than low-level or dark scenes. See if that helps...accordianman

If your RCA TV is 14 years old, it may be nearing end of life. You may find repair is not worth considering.

When i turn on my tv it lights up the on and off button but nothing else happens, no picture, the it turns off and back on again.

At the back... small door.. remove old bulb and replace it with new. It could be blown and it is protecting the rest of the TV
On google put: RCA D40W20 parts.
Near the top will be a site to go to and they will ship to you and it is easier than changing a home lightbulb

No picture or sound - TV makes chirping noise

The chirping sound is the power supply coming up then breaking down because there is a short somwhere in the high voltage. The most common fail in this area is the horizontal output is shorted ( 237470 ) but what cause this short could be simple cold solder joints or the High voltage transformer ( 239111 ) If you have noway to "ring" the flyback change both parts
