Sorry Kevin000, your answer in not entirely correct.

Many satelite boxes allow you to connect to the TV using AV cables (red/white/yel) or S-video or RF. If connected via RF, then the TV is usually set to channel 3 or 4. The RF route uses the tuner. The other methods bypass the tuner.

Satellite box send out siginal in the same frequency, so the tv tuner doesnt have to work on it, but all siginal coming to the Tv goes through the turner.

To by pass the tuner use a cable, satellite or other box that has its own tuner--use the audio/video outputs the box must have and connect to a similar INPUT on the TV---leave set on that input and change channels with the box used.

I am moving tomorrow and won't be able to afford cable or satellite for awhile. I have a newer model Sanyo tv. Will I need a converter box or can I hook an antenna directly into the tv to pick u

If your TV has the screw-on coaxial cable connection on the back, then you will not need a converter box. You can attach an internal or external antenna and have your TV scan for digital channels. The converter boxes are mostly for old CRT TVs with analog tuners or newer home theater "monitor" TVs which are being produced without built in tuners.

I am unable to record digital tv channels on my LG RC389H dvd recorder. I have a new tv with a digital tuner and have hooked them up but unable to view any digital tv on my LG player only the old analogue...

The RC389H is only deigned to receive standard TV signals, not digital. If you are routing through a straight cable line you usually can't access anything above 100 if you don't have a digital tuner. Try using a cable/satellite box if you haven't already, this bypasses the requirement for a digital tuner because the cable/satellite box has one of it's own.

50" plasma sound but no

Are you running an input device to the tv? Or is this an internal tuner?
If you're running an input device like a cable box or satellite receiver, check your cables. 90% of the time it's a bad input cable. Try a different cable and a different input.
Be sure you inputs are correctly inserted to the corresponding jack, as well.

If it's an internal tuner, switch through all the channels to confirm that you are getting sound only and no video. You may want to contact your cable service provider unless you can confirm it works on seperate tv's in the home. If this is the case, your tuner is malfunctioning.

To convert a LCD Monitor into a TV
Instructions

Compare internal and external TV tuners that are designed for use with computers. See if the tuner supports HD, DVI, component video, S-video, stereo, surround sound or other features you might like to use. Ensure that any internal devices will work with the expansion slots in your computer.

    • 2

Purchase a regular TV tuner if your monitor has S-video, coaxial or RCA inputs. These can be seen at the back of the monitor. S-video should be clearly marked; coaxial is a large round port, and RCA inputs are typically smaller and brightly colored. If your monitor does not have these inputs, purchase a special TV tuner designed just for computer monitors. If you would like to use the tuner with your computer and monitor, choose an internal TV tuner. If you're using your computer monitor as a television on its own, select a stand-alone external tuner. Install the internal TV in your computer, if applicable.

    • 3

Connect the TV tuner to the monitor with the proper cable. Select S-video as the connection option if both your tuner and monitor support it. Choose RCA component video as your next option. Use coaxial only if your monitor and tuner do not have the aforementioned connections. If your monitor has none of these connections, use a standard VGA cable to connect the tuner and monitor.

    • 4

Connect the tuner's audio outputs to your monitor's speakers. If your monitor has no speakers directly attached, connect external speakers to the TV tuner. This can usually be achieved using regular audio or RCA cable.

    • 5

Install an HD antenna high on a wall if you will be picking up free over-the-air television signals with your monitor. If you will be using satellite or cable TV with your monitor, simply plug the satellite or cable set top box into the tuner using RCA or coaxial cables. Then connect the tuner directly to the monitor.

    • 6

Set your tuner to the channel you use to pick up television stations. If you receive free over-the-air television, this channel will be 3 or 4. If you have satellite or cable TV, this station is determined by your television service provider. Check the documentation that came with your system to determine which channel to set the tuner on. You will probably need to change channels using the satellite or cable box rather than the TV tuner.

Get dish network to work with hp SR5505F COMPAQ PRESARIO COMPUTER

You can not change channels on Satellite with your TV tuner card. The satellite box decodes the sat signal (it is sent encrypted) you can run S-Video/RCA/HDMI depending on the video card input, but you will be required to change the channel on the Dish box. The TV card can only change channels on broadcast (over the air) channels, you can attach an antenna and it will use the NTSC tuner to change analog channels (if they are still available) and the ATSC tuner to change digital/HD broadcast channels. This card (from your description can ONLY deal with broadcast TV, You will need a TV card with a QAM tuner for unscrambled digital cable. There is no solution for directly interfacing with Satellite on a PC or Mac (DirectTV or Dish) the signal from the satellite is encrypted and requires (at least for DirectTV, a fairly complicated decryption setup to function, this is handled by the tuner box/card combination. Sorry your setup will not support changing the channel on the PC, you may be able to find some kind of software that can utilize an IR transmitter to change the channels on your satellite box, similar to the way a Tivo or other DVR can talk to cable boxes, but that is the best you will be able to do as far as channel changing.

Does it look like the error is coming from the satellite box or the TV?

You may have to disconnect the box and run the TV using its internal tuner, or by plugging a DVD player or VCR into it to test run it for a while.

If the TV runs for a day without the error message showing up, your satellite box is the culprit. Check prices, it might be cheaper to replace than to repair.

I can not record any tv programs because my vcr does not have a internal tuner so how can i fix this problem?

If the VCR has no tuner, you must have another tuner connected (such as a cable or satellite box) in order to be able to record anything. This tuner will then select the channel to be recorded.
