Re: Cant restore my acer aspire 5100
Ok well first iv had nothing but bad luck with them. i think you would need to buy a new copy of windows xp, u can choose the version. you cant get your factory settings back with all the programs that acer gives you when you buy your pc, unless they send you a new hard drive. the restore cds i think with acer word from that specific restore partition on the hard drive. and with most pcs from i think 2002 and up have the F11 option with the restore partition to reset and restore your computer. when they erased your hard drive, they erased every little bit of data that was on it. me personally can restore all, if not some of the information and personal data you have. please email me the model # serial # and as much else info you can provide of your computer. and i will do as much as i can to help. if you have any more questions, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org

you could try going to the boot menu, and choosing 'last known good', but that is probably not going to work.
you should be able to run a repair off the CD....
the file is a kernel, a neccessary file used by Windows. It may have gotten corrupted or deleted.. possibly by a virus or bad hard drive sector.
get a disc, and run repair, if that doesn't fix it, you may need to re-install a fresh copy of windows, which will over-write all your data. you may be able to boot to that upgrade CD and that may have a repair option...
the best place that i can think of would be www.laptops-motherboard.com
If you are looking for something locally, i would suggest finding a smaller (mom and pop) computer store... not one of the big ones(best buy/circuit city). hope this helps, please rate if it does...thanks
If you are able, when the pc is booting up keep pressing F8, this will take you to safe mode and not allow the graphics driver to run.
When in the safe mode options, select either Last known good configuration or start windows in safe mode.
Last known good configuration should find the last good system settings, when it reboots.
Start windows in safe mode allows you to go into windows using the administartor account, and then you should select system restore and restore back to the day before or just before you updated the graphics driver.
