Start the computer and hold down the "C" key when you hear the start up chime. Keep holding down the key until the computer boots into the OS installer. You are going to have to reinstall the OS. Just follow the instructions from there.

How to upgrade my macbook pro to Yosemite

Apple has made this feature free, and fairly simple. You should first make sure you have a backup of your hard drive on an external drive (easiest to complete with the TimeMachine feature of your Macbook Pro).

  • Open the App Store app and select the Featured or Top Charts tab. You can search for Yosemite, although Top Charts will usually list it as #1 in the Top Free apps.

  • Click on the Download button for Yosemite wherever it appears (either in the search list, or in Top Charts). Follow the prompts.

  • Depending on your connection speed and the specs of your macbook pro, the installation will take one to four hours.
    • Of course, you will have to have an Apple ID to download anything from the App Store.
    • If you don't have an Apple ID and don't know how to get one, please ask another question on FIXYA.

2006 Macbook Pro replacement screen problems

You have a bad driver. Reinstall your screen driver or clear your P ram by holding the letters P and R and the control button when you boot your laptop. Hold them until it chimes and reboots.

My Macbook pro turns on but then gets stuck at the Apple logo with the loading gear and never finishes loading.

See if you can start your Mac in safe mode:

Shut down your Mac and wait 10 seconds.
  1. Press the power button.
  2. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
  3. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
To leave safe mode, restart your Mac normally without holding down any keys during startup.

If you can boot in safe mode, you have something on board your computer that's interfering with startup. If you've recently installed software, system extensions or 3rd party preference panels (Adobe and Microsoft stuff is notorious), try to disable or de-install it. If you can't get booted in safe mode, you may have a hardware or memory problem that might require technical repair. Repost your progress.

Lost install disk for Mac book pro My 13" Mac book

You will need some install disks to even begin working on your issue.
Your options:
  • Find someone with the same model MacBook Pro and borrow the disks.
  • Buy a copy of Leopard (10.5) or Snow Leopard (10.6) and use them. If you are going to buy a set you might as well update to Snow Leopard (10.6)
  • Check eBay for install disks but make sure they are for the same model MacBook Pro.
  • Contact an Apple service center and purchase a replacement set of install disks.
Once you have a install CD, I would recommend backing up your system by making a disk image of the hard drive to an external drive. Then doing a clean install and then using the Migration Assistant to restore your user files to the clean install on your hard drive.

My laptop has suddenly frozen, i turned it off by the power button and whenever i try to turn it on it turns white screen, then shutsoff after 3-5minutes.

Resolution
  1. Disconnect any devices connected to the computer including printers, hubs, and third-party keyboards or mice, and test the computer again by trying to turn it on.
  2. If you're using a MacBook or MacBook Pro, check the battery level. Press the small button on the battery or on the side of the computer. You should see lights indicating the battery's level of charge. If you see just one light blinking, the battery needs to be recharged. Use the computer with the adapter connected to recharge the battery.
  3. Unplug the power adapter from the electrical outlet and from the MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro. Wait one minute. Plug it back into the wall first, then to the computer. Make sure the electrical outlet is working by plugging in another device (such as a lamp). When you plug the adapter back into the computer, the power adapter LEDs should light up green or amber.
  4. Inspect the MagSafe port on the computer for debris, such as metal stuck to the magnet in the port, which might prevent the connector from seating properly. On the adapter side, look at the DC connector for dust or other debris and check whether pins are missing, bent, or stuck down. If you find any of these to be true, see Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for instructions on cleaning the adapter.
  5. Make sure you are using the adapter that was designed for your computer. If you aren't sure or if you need a new adapter, learn which adapter is appropriate for your computer.
  6. Press the control key, the command key, and the power button simultaneously and hold for three seconds to try to restart the computer.
  7. Reset the PRAM. After pressing the power button, hold down these keys simultaneously: Command-Option-P-R, until you hear the startup chime at least one additional time after the initial startup chime.
  8. Reset the SMC for the MacBook And MacBook Pro by removing the AC power, removing the battery and then holding down the power button for five seconds. On the MacBook Air, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once. Note: You must use the keys on the left side of the MacBook Air keyboard.
  9. If you recently installed additional memory, make sure it is correctly installed and is compatible with your computer. Remove the new memory to see if the computer starts up properly without it.
Also:
The MacBook SMC Firmware Update v1.1 improves the MacBook's internal monitoring system and addresses issues with unexpected shutdowns. This update is recommended for all MacBook systems, including those that received warranty repair.
You can use the Software Update feature of System Preferences, or download the MacBook SMC Firmware Update v1.1 from Apple Software Downloads.
Note: If your MacBook is running Mac OS X 10.4.6, you won't be able to see the SMC Update until you update to Mac OS X 10.4.8. Once you have updated your system software, the SMC Update will appear as an option in Software Updates.
MacBooks running Mac OS X 10.4.7 will be able to download and install the SMC Update, so it is not essential that you update your system software, although Apple always recommends updating to the latest version of the system software.
If your MacBook is in a state where it will not remain on long enough to install the update, wait for the issue to reproduce itself. Once the MacBook has turned itself off, turn the computer on by holding the power button down. Keep the button down until you hear a single long tone. Once you hear the tone you can release the button, install the recommended updates, and restart normally.

Do you want to install the printer software or do you want to connect the printer and start using it ?
Also, please let me know the version of MAC o/s you are using.

Basic Help is :
1. Turn the printer on
2. Connect the Printer USB to MAC
3. It should install the drivers

If this does not work,
Run the software disk of the printer and follow the instructions on screen.
Connect the printer as required at the time of installation or later after the installation is complete.

MacBook Software Updater - continually prompts to install an update

You're probably not actually flashing the firmware, but downloading the utility to do so. Follow these steps:
1. Quit all other open applications. Open the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware update which is in your Utilities directory

2. Click Shut Down in the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update window and wait for your computer to shut down.

3. Press and hold the power button on your MacBook Pro until the power indicator light flashes repeatedly, then release the power button to begin the update.

A status bar indicates the progress of the update.

Important: Do not interrupt the update.

Your computer restarts automatically when the update is completed and opens the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update.

4. Click OK, if the firmware is now up-to-date.
