Question about LG DLE5977 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

LG 5977 dryer makes grinding noise

Grinding noise begins as the unit is turned on. Had it for almost 3 yrs. Discoloration/brown color on the heat source grid inside the tub. Check filter indication is on eventhough we had it cleaned very well including the vent from the unit to the wall.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Is there a step by step process to take the LG Dryer apart to fix the problem?

    I appreciate your help greatly.

I have the same problem and took apart the machine today.  I found a torn gasket that is glued to the tub.  When the tub rotates there is metal on metal contact where the gasket is torn causing the sound.  I am now trying to figure out if I should order a new gasket or the whole tub assembly.  The gasket is around $20 and the tub assembly is $120.  If someone could tell me what type of glue to use on the gasket and how to install it properly I would simply pay the $20 and get the gasket.

If your dryer is noisy, check these: (Click on links).

Rollers
Idler pulley
Glides
Rear drum bearing
Blower wheel
Rollers Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.

Idler pulley Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

Glides Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

Rear drum bearing Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

Blower wheel Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it. If this doesn't help, post me back and I will do some more research to help resolve your issue.

My LG Dryer is making a grinding noise.......Any help here?? It's 2 yrs old and I paid 1000 for this piece of junk!

Most likely you have bad front or rear rollers. They had many issues with the rollers on these units and they were on a factory backorder for like 2 months! Could also be an issue with your idler pulley. They are not the easiest to work on and the whole drum would have to be removed to check each roller individually to pin point the problem. Hope this helps _MJ_

Lg dryer - front load - making a grinding noise

I also have the same problem as klrlesimmons, exactly as described. Sounds like sand is rubbing as the drum turns, and also sounds out of balance.

Repairmen replaced upper and lower glides and also the plastic bearing but not the entire bearing assembly.
