Hi,

The reason the power light goes off after five seconds is because the power system is not energizing, You are getting power to it or there would be no light.

There are user replaceable fuses in most case and not in others. If you are going to remove the back of your set you need to adhere to these safety measures.

1.) Power is stored in high capacity capacitors that can contain up to 4,000 volts. Should you touch these you will get severely shocked and have a nasty burn to deal with.

2.) Do unplug your unit and do not do this without shoes on more specifically sneakers.

3.) Have someone with you in case you are electrocuted who can call 911 and provide cardiac resuscitation if you need it.

Have a plastic flashlight on hand to look at the area of the set immediately around the main power transformer where the cord comes in. Look for the easily recognized inline fuses you'd expect to find. Depending on your set you don't have any or you may have several. Give those a good look until you are certain the internal wire is present or burned in half near the center. Should any be blown carefully remove them by lifting one end up with a small screwdriver and then use a pair of pliers to gently withdraw the fuse completely. Do not do this barehanded. There are rating markings on the silver colored ends of the fuses giving amperage ratings and replace these fuses with an identical rated fuse.

If you do not find any blown fuses that doesn't mean all hope is lost you just won't be able to service it yourself. Have a qualified service technician come in and service the set if its worth it to you.

Regards,
Worldvet

Hi,

The only easy user option I can forward is to try a full hard reset. Though it may sound much, it is actually nothing more than simply unplugging the Mitsubishi from the mains for a couple of hours (preferably overnight). The idea is to revert most (if not all) settings back to factory default.

If you can likewise hear a clicking sound coming from the rear, then that would mean the auto-protection is kicking in and is keeping most of the internal circuitry from powering up to prevent further damage, Having said this, then it would mean that it is no software glitch and there is a hardware fault. Often problems would involve power supply circuitry (a blown capacitor is most likely) together with other components such as pico fuses, resistors, regulators to name a few.

At this point your best bet may be to seek the services of a qualified personnel. Should you venture to perform a DIY, pls be reminded that diagnosis/repairs would call for familiarity with electronic circuitry and components, use of a DVM and a soldering iron and access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage settings.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Dear Sir,

Let's hope it is just a corruption of the software codes in the power management circuits of the TV.

Do a hard reset and see if that will bring it back to life.

HARD RESET: Merely unplug the power cord for 4 hours. Then power it back up again.

If this does not solve the problem it means there are other problems. So, let me know the outcome.

Good Luck

Power on and it goes off after 5 seconds ,,the system is automaticaly shut off the unit this is of two causes cold solder or crack of the joint in the power supply section ,and to the horizontal section .and the other one is shorted Horizontal Output Transistor, If HOT is shorted the unit power on and goes off like yours.HOT produce the high voltage that we can the see picture. Automatically shut off the system because shorted HOT,and trap the voltage of power supply..only you do is to change the transistor in the horizontal section ..so your tv will works again.this is not cost too much...

Thats usually caused by failed capacitors on the DM power board. REplaceing them will usually fix the issue. You can get the DM repair kit for your model at www.tvrepairworld.com which contains the upgraded caps and the CD with repair instructions.

Sony wide screen projection tv model kp-57wv600 problem. Sound with no picture. Stanby red light blinks seven times? What parts do I need to repair the problem. Thanks ,Gary

I found this solution from SONY's website.

The STANDBY light will flash if an issue is detected within the television. This can sometimes be resolved by simply following the steps below to reset the television.
  1. Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
  2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
  3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
  5. Turn on the television.
If the issue is still unresolved after following all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required. Please note the number of times the STANDBY light flashes and relay that information to the service center.

I hope this helps.

2001 Mitsubishi 65 inch HD1080 rear projection. When I turn it on, green light comes on for 2 seconds then it turns itself off. No flashing green light like others I read about.

Ok, try this first. After attempting to turn on set after it shuts off push and hold the MENU and INPUT buttons at the same time on the front of the set for 10 seconds. This should acccuate the self diagnostics function in the micro and the power LED should start blinking a two sequence code. That code will narrow things down.
