To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

I need to reset the power n password for ibm t42

This varies from laptop to laptop, some ibm laptops have a special memory chip for the password that will prevent users from reseting the password.

In most of the laptops out there you can remove the bios password by removing the 3 volt memory battery inside, but in ibm laptops there may be a rom chip that stores the password, so it doesn't get removed even after removing the battery, there was some work around solution posted online somewhere, but its not guaranteed to work.

IBM t42.. I don't know if this laptop has any special bios password protection.

Try removing the internal battery and see if it helps, leave it unplugged for a while.

if this doesn't solve the issue theres probably a rom chip that stores the passwords, the ibms are made a little better than the average laptops out there, not as easy to bypass.

if you get a system disabled xxxxx code if you enter the password wrong 3 times this may be unlocked at a local ibm service center, even I could give it try since I have access to some of the manufacturer code calculators.

if the bios battery didn't solve the problem and you don't get a disabled message either, then you might have to sort a few pins on the bios chip to reset it, thats something you will need to look into on your own and do at your own risk, theres also the guide somewhere online for creating a tool to remove the password.

last option is to take the ibm to a service center to get it unlocked, this one is the best and recommended option for you.

New Password

On most computers you can access the bios menu by tapping one of the Functions keys, usually its an even number most often f8, sometimes f4 or 2 and seldom f7. Hope it helps, please rate if helpful.
