Question about Gateway FPD2185W 21 in. LCD Television

Gateway monitor Is there somewhere I can find step-by-step instructions on removing and installing the capacitors. Is this something that someone with very little soldering experience could do? We've opened the monitor and think we've located the bad ones. Just not sure on how best to proceed. Thank you for your help.

I had the same problem and replace all eight caps in the bunch. I've soldered speaker wires and the like before but never circuit boards. I watched this video and just like that, I was a pro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_NU2ruzyc4. I had to search de-soldering old circuits on youtube also. Oh, and my monitor works now. If anybody reading this is in the Orlando area and you do not want to do it. Reply here.

Model 2100 FPD2185W Monitor Will not turn on or seems as if its getting power but screen flickers on and off. Seems as if its in reset mode every 3 seconds. Any help is of utmost wanted.

It's very likely a problem with some of the capacitors in the power supply area. You can search for similar fixes here on this site. I'm ordering parts now for mine. Two of the eight tall/blue capacitors in a bunch have tops that are bulging (but I'll replace all eight since they're cheap). There's a pair of two in the middle of the same board on mine with bulging tops and there are four transistors in that same area that look like they got too hot. Most people seem to be getting away with only replacing the bulged capacitors but here is my total part list from digikey.com:
785-1106-1-ND quantity 2 (the D405-marked transistors) 785-1114-1-ND quantity 2 (the D408-marked transistors) P12389-ND quantity 8 (the 470uF capacitors) P12383-ND quantity 2 (the 220uF capacitors)
The total part list is about $7.50 with another $2.50 or less shipping. It's a pain to take apart, given the small connectors inside. The fix assumes you have soldering skills.
Go with these from digikey versus Radio Shack. They're rated for 220 degrees fahrenheit versus only 85 degrees and they're about a third less cost.

to take solder off you can get some cross wire called DESOLDER this copper wire soaks up the old solder, by heating this new desolder the old solder will jump into it and clear your way. I like the Techspray #3 no-clean model 1822-5f
and its made in the USA!

My Gateway 19" FPD1960 TFT LCD Monitor suddenly went dead.

ooooooo yeah there is .. its corrupt eeprom memory . if you find the eeprom for the micro on the main bord short pin 5 to pin 1 then plug it in and wait a few seconds and remov whatever your shorting it with . thee monitor will use default data to turn on and it will rewrite the eeprom with new data. i added a pair of wires that hang out the side of mine to do that when it needs it . about every eight months.. but first before you take it apart see if it might turn on in the service mode by pressing and holding "menu" and "power" if that works you can select the option clear NVM . which would clear the non volitle memory eeprm..

When you say that you replaced "all the capacitors" what are
you referring to? There are 8 identical capacitors in the corner
of the Power Supply/Inverter board that go bad, but there are
also 3 capacitors in the corner of the Main board nearest the
connector that goes to the power supply that can also go bad.
These are associated with the part "U15" nearby, which is the
3.3 Volt voltage regulator for the main board. If these caps go
bad, this regulator can fail to operate, and you will get no display.

open it up and look for defective capacitors on the video input board and replace them. Should probably replace the 470uf caps on the power board while you are in there.

Monitor Will not come on anymore

I and many many many others like you have the same problem. The suggested solution is to replace the capacitors on the board. (look for the "blotted" ones). This may be too complicated for most and should NOT cost more than $75. BOTTOM line: DON'T BUY THIS MONITOR AND DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM GATEWAY!
