I accidently washed some pants with change in the pocket. The change somehow ended up in the pump and made a very loud tapping sound when the water drained. The change ended up making a hole in the hose connected to the pump and we had to change the whole thing which meant taking the entire machine apart.

I also got the same tapping sound, had a tech come out and he said that the tub bumps again a part in the machine, so he siled it down and I have not heard it since. He said they have gotten a few calls with this same problem, it seems to be a defect but like I said once it was filed down you will not hear it again.

Took the adivce of "Guest" (tilt the washer and disconnect hose to pump) and found the noisemaker - a dime. We are now ten cents richer and we saved ourselves a service call!

I have the same problem. It happens because there is debris in the drain pump (change, bobby pins, barrets, etc.). With the power off, if you flip the washer up on its left side (looking forward at the washer) and rest it on a wall or something, you can see the pump at the back right side of the bottom. With the water drained, you can disconnect the hose where water flows into the pump from the wash bin and put your finger inside the pump and remove most items that are in there. Be prepared, though, because if there is anything "long" in there, like a bobby pin, it will not be easy at all to get out. If you can get everything out of there, the "tapping" will stop. Be forewarned, however, getting the clamp for the inlet hose on will not be an easy task. Make sure you have pliers and a strong pair of hands. Good luck, and stop trying to wash your barrets and bobby pins! This is a CLOTHES washer! HA HA

Whirlpool washing machine make loud noise after spin cycle quits. Noise continues until cycle winds down. Sounds like a machine gun being fired

Hello, have to tell you that most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping noise during the spin, the load of cloth may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the cloths, then restart the machine. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Thanks

My whirlpool duet washer hammers very loud when it spins. The outside of the machine doesn't seem to vibrate much but it is very loud.

That is a common occurrence with dryers such as this one. Even though it sounds bad, it is harmless. If it really bothers, you can re-balance the load and it should reduce the vibration.
