Question about HP Photosmart C5180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Black ink not working on HP C5180 Photosmart

The black ink no longer prints on my HP C5180. It never gave me a "low ink" message--it just quit printing black. I have tried changing the ink cartridge and that hasn't worked.

I have the same problem. I installed two new black cartridges and still got the message "Black Ink Cartridge Empty, etc." I unplugged the cord from the printer and also from the PC and nothing worked. The HP Vista stinks. I've had nothing but problems with it and have paid a Geek a ton of money to solve each issue.

I have been dealing with the SAME ISSUE for weeks now. Have contacted HP several times. Nothing they told me to do is working. REALLY FRUSTRATED! Do I buy a new printer now or what? Kind of need the black ink...

My black color is not working either. A new cartridge did'nt solve the problem nor the chat-help of HP (who had a lot of patience). I think that the ink has dried up inside the printer, but I don't know about the construction of it. Who knows how to clean the pipes/nozzles of the printer????

    Same problem!
And the black ink gauche on the computer is correct, but the ink gauche on the printer screen is completly wrong. The HP-Support couldn't help me.

Is ist possible to hard reset the printer?

i have a C5180 printer and it stated that i needed to replace the black ink cartridge. i have tried two different new black ink cartridges and it still shows it at being empty. how can you fix this?

  • slayfire52 Apr 11, 2009

Exact same problem. Purchased mine October 2007. Replaced the black cartridge,to no avail. No error messages whatsoever, but when i try to align the printer and do a print head cleaning,it gives me a message that says the process failed...The colors print fine, when I give a plain black print the page comes out white.

my printer is printing more of a reddish/brown color instead of the grays and blacks that I need. It just started and I need it fixed asap!

Try a hard restart, which simply means unplugging the power cord of the printer, and replugging it after one minute has passed. If that does not work, then rerun the CD used to install the printer. Both techniques reprogram the electronics, to a certain extent.
You can also visit the HP website, to see what solutions are being offered for various printer problems. They probably have a number to call, in case you need to talk to a technician.
Hope these suggestions help you out.

Why must you have pink ink if you want to print in black only

unfortunately it was programed into the firmware of the printer to have ink in all cartridges. if you desire to print in black only after the cartridge is replaced then go into the printing preferences and under either advanced or color select print in greyscale then black ink only apply the change and from that point on all docs will print using black ink only

I have a printer HP c5180 all in one, only have black ink , not color, i dont want print in color . can I use the printer black and white (not color) only?

You can go into the print properties and set it to print black only, however if any of the color cartridges are empty the printer may not print until you replace whichever cartridge is empty.

The yellow cartridge is out of ink.

You probably can.

Before you print, go into print options and select "Black ink only".

Let me know if it works. It should do as it's a standard option on almost every printer.

Black wont print

How did you resetted the machine??
Did it gave you any error messages??
Try to take out the black ink cartridge and try to clean the contacts (the copper colored circles) with a cotton swab dampened with bottled water. (don't use tap water coz there are contaminants on the tap water might ruin the contacts). Send me a message if it still wont work

How can I print Black only?

Hi

HP Inkjet printers work only if both the cartridges have ink unlike HP Laserjet printers.
If you want the printer to print only in black, Follow the steps

Start --->Control panel -- >Printers and faxes ---->Right click on the printer icon (HP c5100) select printing preferences.
Under printing prefences there u will see an option to print with black or print in gray scale.

Note:HP Inkjet printers like Photosmart C5180 will work only both the cartridges have ink.

Thanks
Riz
