When I had this problem I replaced that ratchet toggle part that the string drum sits over. Do you use replacement refills or do you refill them yourself. If you wind the string in the wrong direction it all affect the auto feed.

I need to know how to re-string my black & decker weed eater

Here is the instruction manual direct from Black & Decker for the GH1000 XP model. You may or may not have the twin string head, but all instruction manuals are available from their site. As close as I can figure, this pertains to your model.

You will need Adobe Reader installed on your computer to view this as it is a PDF. If you don't, go to Adobe's website. The download for it is safe and free..and easy to delete afterwards if unwanted.

B & D auto feed string trimmer won't advance string

Is the string spool seated on the rachet correctly? If so and all is well, it is worth noting that these trimmers auto feed fuunction is problematic at best, requiring manually unwinding some line every few minutes as the unit gets older.

String won't advance automatically. Thank you so much for any assistance! It's a Black & Decker ST 7000 edger/trimmer.

There is a rachet mechanism at the bottom of the spool. make sure the spool is seated fully. Also make sure the string isn't wound too tight or it will stick and not advance.

I can't find the spool cover for the trimmer ST

Serious question??

Spools on almost all of the recently made trimmers do not have a separate cover. They're attached by pushing down and twisting them clock-wise. When you hear them snap into place, let up and its on. To take one off its just the opposite...push down it down and twist them counter-clockwise.
Hope this helps.
