Acer tft AL 1711 doesn't stay on...

It takes many times switching on this monitor until it stays on. As soon as is turned on, it stays on for hours. What do you think is the problem?

I think I did send a post saying that I resolved the issue by accident... I pressed the Menu button and played with the functions, while it was connected with my laptop. Finally I pressed for Reset and I did Auto Config as well. The screen hasn't played up since. Turns on first time I press the "On" button. The only problem is that I kept it plugged on my laptop and every now and then the laptop sreen was black or grey. The issue was resolved by unplugging the screen when not needed and plugged when needed with a restart of the laptop in order to find the new monitor... I only need the extra monitor twice a week and this is a small inconvenience... Somebody explained to me that because the laptop is of a different resolution, it tries to get even with the extra monitor and blacks out. Another solution to this problem would be to have both laptop and monitor on at all times, but as I said I need it only twice a week. It was a very good bargain as we bought it for £15!!!

Has your problem remained stable since you posted this in June or is it now completely dead?

That was a bargain; did the guy have any other stolen goods for sale?? ;-)

You might check eBay (or other cheap source) for a two-port video transfer switch; I used one in my service shop years ago (somewhere in a box now) and it saved a lot of wear and tear on connectors and at that time was about $20 US.
You can just leave it connected to both unless you are actually dragging your bargain around with you.

I'm trying to open Acer Al 1711 monitor to change backlight lamp, and after I remove the four screws on its back I'm stuck , nothing moves. What else should I do?

Check for more screws since it sounds like you haven't found them all, but if you have then you have to separate the two halves of the display plastics. These are snap in pieces and there will be about sixteen of them. You need a small strong screw driver since they are tight and will have to be gently forced to release you get ambitious on them and you will snap them off and they are not repairable. One other thing unless you have a new backlight lamp you may as well stay out of there. Monitors are designed one display one light, and parts are very seldom interchangeable between them. I know they all do the same job and all look the same from the outside but they are very seldom sent with the same connectors or wiring harness. Hope this helps

Acer monitor only display for about 3 to 4 second

Sounds like a busted syncing circuit, probably due to a condenser. It takes about that time to heat or overcharge, at which point a safety feature will turn off the display.

You just MIGHT get some more life hours out of the monitor by tuning it to a lower resolution, but it will buy you a month even in the best hypothesis.

I'm afraid the monitor is in for a repair/replacement.
