yes...the video card could have gone out but most likely you have a connection that is loose or bad. I would check those first. If you have done so then I would try another video port and verify that it is the screen that is out and not just the port you are in.

Does that mean, you still have sound but don't have a picture?

Unfortunately the answer isn't a simple one on that set. Just about every board in that set can have a problem that causes it to shut down. The cheaper way out this will be a trip to the shop as opposed to you buying all the boards from a distributor and doing it yourself. A small, local shop will charge you a FAIR price and do it right for you. Plus, most distributors DO NOT WARRANT parts if you are not a professional technician.

Ask friends where they have had work done or call the local chamber of commerce. They can point you in the right direction as well. Avoid the great big places. More than a few techs means more overhead and higher prices.

Alot of times i have noticed that when i have worked on these, it has been the Backlight Inverter. 32 inch televisions had same problem as the 42 inch

You are correct=====Return it ! It's new, you should not have to have it repaired this soon.

power supply or inverter board failing if the power board is the problem it will have blown caps
little cans with puffy tops because the caps have vented if you don't see that then your inverter has died that model id out of production so try shop jimmy. com

Magnavox suggests unplugging the tv for exactly 10 minutes to reset the tv---try that---or call the service number for assistance
