Most monitor drivers are built in windows, have you tried booting up in
"Safe Mode" and changing the screen resolution?

Hp pavilion f1703 flashes on and off. Tried pushing F8 for 30 seconds - no result.

have you checked the power connecter at the back of the monitor?

is it the whole PC that is flashing on and off or JUSTr the monitor?

the F8 key when turning on a Windows based PC, will only take you to a screen to choose how to start windows, in Normal mode, safe mode, or commandline mode.

none of this helps a flickering screen.

try and change out the data cable (VGA cable, blue screw in plug) and the power cable if possible.

Screen flashes only for a split-second (as a second display for an iMac)

The inverter is faulty. If your Monitor is powered by a mains'kettle' type lead, then it MAY be repairable, provided you can find someone to do it.If you have an external power supply, then the chances are you have a separate inverter, and it is doubtful whetther you can find the fault or a replacement circuit board....which is why we have become a throw away nation !!

"Input Not Supported" message on monitor at boot

Sounds to me like the input has gone out of the boundaries the monitor supports. IE the refresh rate is too high frequency (normally 60 to 72 Hertz for LCD's) or the screen resolution has been set too high.

Go into safe mode and set it back to 1024 X 768 at a frequency of 60 Hz, once back into windows proper you can try higher resolutions and change your refresh, if the screen goes black or displays a message "Out of Bounds" or similar it should revert after 15 seconds if left alone.

Have fun
