Question about Altec Lansing AVS 500 Computer Speakers

Altec Lansing Altec AVS 500

Getting quite a bit of feedback sound on my Altec Lansing AVS500 speaker system even when the volume on the speaker is turned down and low as it can go. Any idea what's up with that?

    Buzz or hum at all times coming from subwoofer, even when system is turned off?

If you are using windows media player check if your player is configured to have an echo. If it is configured remove it. If it is not configured to have an echo and if you are using any soundcard have that sound card check by an expert or by your vendor and let them check it out if it is still under warranty.

AVS 500: The two surround speakers a re working, the other two (including the surround & volume control) are not. What could be wrong? I have tried reseating the plugs, but no change.


control panel sounds and audio,volume you can adjust the volume or advanced,speakers select appropriate speakers or
audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have selected the right speakers or
control panel,administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll to sound,video and game cotrollers could be a yellow question mark? right click to re-install drivers

What are the black and green plug wires on the


The green plug goes into the "Audio Out" of your soundcard. That plug recepltical is usually also green. Unless your soundcard supports 5.1 or higher the black cable wont be used, otherwise plug it into the black receptical, which should be located right next to the green one

When power supply pluged in the wolfer makes loud noise


Try turning the volume down on your computer or on the woofer itself.

Altec avs500 speaker sound in 2 speaker only and not the rest


Try making sure the surround sounds knob is turned all the way to the right and that the switch on the subwoofer is on stereo and not gaming.

I have altec lansing speakers AVS500 and have no sound


It sounds like the subwoofer speaker has blown. If you are comfortable working with a soldering iron and speakers then you can open the case and replace the speaker with a replacement subwoofer speaker. A good online store for replacement speakers is PartsExpress.com

lost instructions on how to hook up. Large speaker makes static. Right speakers work great.

All colors match but can not find the proper jack for the black wire coming out of large speaker

I suspect this is the problem
