Question about Freezers

1 Answer

Philips Freezer I inherited my father's elderly Philips freezer. I don't know the model number and I can't find the handbook. At the top of the door is a switch, one side appears to rate one large star, the other side appears to rate 3 small stars. The switch has always been set to the one large star. Next to the switch is a panel with three lights; orange, red and green. Usually only the green is lit up, but recently the red has been coming on a lot. If I change the switch to three stars, the orange light comes on as well as the red. Can you explain what the switch and the lights mean please.

I used to sell freezers.the green light tells you the mains is on and the freezer should work. The red light is to inform you the freezer is not low enough temperature, and the orange light is a fast freeze light to over ride the thermostat for use when introducing fresh food.It should not be used for prolonged periods as it may burn out the compressor although in your case you already have a problem and should seek advice or buy another freezer. If you get a cheap freezer thermometer it should confirm what I am saying.

How do I replace the door light switch?

I appreciate your post, Deborah!

From what you have described you need to replace the door light switch on your Frigidaire freezer. In order to assist you further I would need your model number. You can locate your serial tag (which lists your model number) on the inside wall of your freezer. I look forward to assisting you. -Matt

My frigidaire automatic defrost upright freezer gets ice build-up at the top right at the front any suuggestions

This is just a general answer but it may mean that the door seal is leaking. Try running a dollar bill under the seal to see if that area is looser than the rest of the door seal.
Look inside the freezer for model number.

My freezer works but not freezing

Could you please list a model number with your request for assistance? If I cannot answer your request just posting a model number moves customers to the top of the list for solutions. You refrigerator model number is most times found around the fresh food compartment door frame.

The most likely reason the freezer is not freezing as well as befor are the defrost components. Can you see a layer of frost building on the rear wall of the freezer? An example of this is found HERE Signs Of Defrost Failure and if you have these signs the evaporator behind the rear wall of the freezer wil look like this=> Evaporator Covered in Frost Due to Defrost Failure Let me know if the fans in freezer and under the refrigerator are running. Also if you don't have these signs the compressor may be short cycling due to a defective start relay, run capacitor and overload. Let me know and I will be here to answer your questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

In my freezer, there is a blinking red light next to the icemaker on-off switch. What is it and why is it blinking?

It might be blinking because it hasn't been able to reach the required temperature or the temperature you have set. Probably leaving it close for one or two days, the light will go off, if not, you might consider changing the plastic isolation of the door, you know, the plastic thing that you see goes around the freezer door, best luck.

Freezer is Frozen shut

Try unplugging the freezer and leave the door open for about 30 to 45 minutes. Don't forget the door is open and plug the freezer back in. Set a timer in the kitchen so you don't forget. Once you can open the drawers look inside the freezer sides to find the controller. Most models have turn dial inside.

Need a door gasket for a 1969 coldspot chest freezer dont know model no

On all refrigerators there is an identification tag that gives the model number. Without the model number you won't be able to find the correct door gasket.

Tips for finding your unique model number
  • Look for your model sticker, tag or plate.
  • Include every digit in the model number, even if some are sized or styled differently.
  • Kenmore and Craftsman model numbers typically have three digits separated by a period.

My upright freezer freezes everything fine my only pro.blem is that it builds up ice/frost on the ceiling of the freezer first and then works its way down i have taken everything out, started fresh and...

Since you didn't give a model number, I don't know if it is frost free or not. If it is, then you have a problem with you defrost system: defrost heater, thermostat or defrost timer.

It also sounds like your door seal is not making solid contact and most air is leaking into the freezer.

If your unit is a frost free, then water should drain down and out.

Things don't freeze on the top shelf right hand side of the door. Also have small amount of water that drips after freezer is opened. This is a manual defrost freezer 20 cu foot freezer

I would suspect the door seal is not making contact or has some defect in it. And that defect is probably in the top right corner of the door. If you have a thermomiter, wait until the compressor kicks in and then slowly run it around the door seal. There should be some area that is colder than the rest. If I am right, then you will need to replace the seal.
