Card reader pins bent

I actually have an xti and the cf card got put in the wrong way....bent the pins. I went to the local friendly camera shop and they told me about 200.00. Shopped around on ebay and found the part for 28 bucks, now just have to figure how to install without making a mess of my camera. Any ideas?? I fairly proficient with a screwdriver....

Thanks,
Paul

I have the same problem, somebody else was using my camera, probably messed up when inserting the card. Did you find a solution on how to replace?

Persenaly I would not attempt this repair my self, I learned that lesson the hard way, with an laptop. Specialy if the camera is still under warrenty as you will void it. However if not I would look on the net to see if I could get instructions on how to take the camera appart, and put the camera back togther again.

My nikon d70 will not regonize the sd card and gives a format signal

The D70 uses CF (compact flash) cards - I hope you are simply misnaming the CF card. But, if you did use an SD card, it would explain how you could have bent a pin.

I understand that Nikon is moving away from CF cards because of the 'bent pin issue' as well as the limited capacity of the CF card.

So, first I would try a CF card (any size) in the reader. If it still doesn't work, then I think you might check with a camera repair shop. If it is a bent pin, they can fix or replace the card reader. Note that the D70 body can be replaced with an EX rated used body for under $90 at https://www.keh.com/shop/nikon-d70-6-1-megapixel-digital-slr-camera-body-only-9782.html

Thus, I wouldn't pay $100 to have the reader fixed unless there are extenuating circumstances. Good luck.

I have a CF err on my Canon Rebel XTI EOS

If your camera uses a compact flash card, then something is wrong with it. Possible causes: card needs formatting in camera (this will erase it) one or more pins inside camera are bent. Card was erased or formatted on computer instead of camera.

Cf card problems

Take a look at the CF reader pins inside the camera - there could be a beant pin - happens quite often. If so, you can contact Canon or other camera repair shop and ask the price. If they ask too much, I can offer you a good price, if you're ready to send it to me. My e-mail is [email protected]

Will not take a picture.

Bent/broken card reader pins. Take a flash light and look inside the card reader. There you'll see two rows of pins, 1or 2 will be bent (common problem).

CF Card Err

Sounds like you have bent pins on your CF reader. Open the door, take out the card and look inside. Is there damage to the pins?

You maybe able to fix it with pincers and a needle just align the pin or pins that are out of place, i did this and it worked for me and now my camera is working fine. and for free.

Good luck

Canon rebel xti says cf card replace i have replaced same fault

Check with a magnifier and a flashlight the conditions of the CF memory reader pins. Usually this kind of cameras have the common problem of have bent or broken the CF reader pins. This may caused the original CF error. If you tried to format a CF memory card, then the bent or broken pins may caused the Error 99. By the way, error 99 is applicable to a very open range of problems (lens contacts, faulty shutter, CF memory card access errors, etc). If is under warranty your camera, once you confirm the reason of the problem, send it to Canon for repair. If is out of warranty, you need somebody to repair it, which is not easy for the common person. If need help on repairing it, please contact the ID user Great_items_2004 at ebay. Regards and good luck.
