Will not start up normally (freezes )

I can not start up computer, it freezes.  When I turn the computer off and then on again it prompts me to startup normally,  start at last known working settings,  start in safe mode,  start in safe mode with networking...
It will only start in safe mode with networking and my screen is shrunken!
I have restored computer to a previous date,  several times!
I have done the BIOS setup.
HELP My computer freezes on start-up. I unplug the computer and then re-plug and try again. After 1 or 2 attempts it starts up. Lately, I have to do it 3 or 4 times. I have done the "destructive recovery" program, which puts the PC back to the original state. However, the same problem persists.

You should try to clean boot the system to see if the problem clears up.

Follow the steps below to place your computer in "clean boot"
  • Click the Start on your Desktop
  • Type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
  • On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
  • Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
  • Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
  • Click OK.

When you are prompted, click Restart.

When the desktop loads, test again and see if you still receive the error.

If this does resolve the issue
then to set your computer back, to boot normal:
  • Click the Start orb on your Desktop
  • In the Start Search box. Type msconfig, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

Click the General tab.
  • Click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services, and then click OK.
  • When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer.

Aspire 5475 freezes on startup

It is most certainly a driver, but if you cant access the safe mode also that could be a hardware issue.. Try to troubleshoot with a windows installation cd. Put it in and boot the pc. It will start the windows instalation, you choose repair computer and not install windows. The command prompt will open, try to troubleshoot from there.. Thanks!

Averatec 3200 PC Notebook freezes at startup but

I suspect one of your startup items to be causing this problem. I suggest you to disable the startup items in safe mode and then try booting in normal mode.

Since you have already tried in safe mode i believe you know how to get in there so lets start from second part on how to disable the start up items.

Step1: Click on start and then click on Run.
Step 2: Type msconfig and hit ENTER.
Step 3: Click on Startup tab.
Step 4: Click on Disable all then click on apply and then Click on OK.
Step 5: Your system will be prompted for a reboot. Go ahead and restart it.
Step 6: As soon as the system is backup you would get system configuration utility screen where in you should check "Don't show this message again".

If you are curious to know which start up item is causing this problem then you might want to try enabling few at a time and narrow down.

It is also important to remove the suspicious applications and programs in the computer to avoid Windows freezing. In this type of infection not only your Windows registry gets corrupted and needs massive repair but also there is virus based penetration in the Windows set up. In this situation it is recommended to conduct a virus scan as well. However, if your Windows freezes up, the best solution is to repair the computer registry.use registry cleaner reginout

Screen freezes on start up power off, power on freezes again .whats the problem ?

Hi ,

This happens when a startup program is is corrupt or is not responding. It can also be that a hardware is gone corrupt that is making the computer freeze. To correct the problem please follow the trobleshooting steps listed below.

Disconnet any external devices that you have added after you bought the notebook like usb devices ,printer etc. Then turn the computer on and see if the computer freezes or not .If it does not freeze then it means that there is an external device that is causing the problem and to find it out you need to connect one device at a time and check .

U can also do this .Turn the computer off completely and then when you turn the computer on keep on tapping the F8 key till it loads the advance boot menu page then select safe mode just plain safe mode and hit the enter key .Wait till it loads the the log on screen then select administrator. It will take you to the desktop and check if the computer freezes or not .If it doesn't then it means that there is a program that is causing the computer to freeze.Go to start?run ?type in msconfig?enter?click on the startup tab ?click on disable all?apply ?select the services tab?click on disable all ?apply ?click on ok or close to exit from the page and then select restart when it prompts you to .When it is booting up to the normal mode check if the computer freezes. Then you will have to find the program that is causing the computer to freeze. To do this first enable all the startup program and then check if it doesnt then its a program under services that is corrupt .S o select one or more program restart and check so this way you will have to isolate the program and then just leave that program unchecked.
Hope this post helps you ...all the best
you can revert if this does not work....

Philips mt1800 displays problems with startup

You can't fix that anymore, your windows copy is now "corrupted or impotent".
If it won;t work on safe mode, probably your system files are at a bad condition.
Recovery disc might get you to startup again, but if ever there is a virus it will just happen again.
I advise you to reformat if you don't have anymore files to save.
If ever there is, well... maybe get a linux live CD so you can browse through your hard disk again.
Hope I helped, cheers.

Computer will not start past safe mode screen

In safe mode, hit start button -run, and type "msconfig" in the box , hit enter.
the system configuration utility opens.
select startup tab at the top
when the startup screen opens, UNcheck all the boxes, press APPLY, then OK
the computer will prompt you to restart, when it restarts it will give you a message saying you have use the system configuration utility to change the way windows starts, this is normal. Check the box that say dont show this again and click OK.
doing this will keep the programs set to start when windows starts from starting untill you start them manually. If one of them is causing the freeze, this will make the system accessible.
Keep in mind, you may want to turn some of them back on after you get the computer going and when you do , turn them on one at a time and restart the computer after each change. this way you can identify which program is causing the problem.
Hope this helps. please repost if you have more questions

Well start a bit slower then.
go into the bios at startup F2, and navigate around does it freeze there. if no then
start windows in safe mode F8 when windows logo shows.
freezing ?
If its not freezing then turn off the startup programs.
Start/run/msconfig and then uncheck load startup items
and start normally, click the dont show me this again /ok
any freezing.
If its freezing you may have a hardware issue.
if you have 2 sticks of memory remove on and or /reseat them
boot the dell diagnostics cd and check the cpu and memory.
report back
