Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

My Tricity Bendix Strata SI 530 main oven does not work. The light in it also doesn't work. The top oven does though. Looking at the manual it suggests that the timer could be the problem, but there isn't one on this model. I'm not sure what I need to look at when I pull the cooker out to try and fix it. The light in the main oven doesn't come out, the manual says to slide a screwdriver behind it but that doesn't work. Any advice would be gladly appreciated!

Thanks for your quick response. The red light indicator does come on but there is no heat in the oven. Are all of the things you have suggested inside the cooker or at the back? Is it something that someone who has little experience of cookers spot, or would it be better to pay someone to come out to look at it?

Areas to look are:
oven selector switch and thermostat
mains terminal block - where mains input is connected. these can quite often burn out.
overheat stat

the oven light not coming on may be a red herring - maybe just the bulb
by red light coming on i assume you mean the thermostat light.
this points to a blown element. assuming it is a fan oven, there is a circular element round the fan hidden behind the oven back panel inside the oven.

    to check:
remove the back panel inside the oven and the element will be exposed. a faulty element is often but not always immediately apparant - you can often see the damage.

otherwise, pull the oven out and remove the rear panel outside. the terminals of the oven element will then be exposed. if you have a multimeter or can borrow one, check for continuity across the element but remove any connections to the element when you do this. if no multimeter. you can check by connecting mains direct to the element but be carefull!!!

replacing the element is easy and the part not too expensive. it is usually held in by 2 - 7mm nuts on threaded posts on the element base plate.

good luck and get back to me if you want

THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON NOW FOR ABOUT FIVE MONTHS AND I THOUGHT IT WILL JUST READJUST ITSELF TO THE DEFAULT SETTING. I AM UNABLE TO WORK EFFECTIVELY IN THE OFFICE AS I CANNOT REFERENCE MAILS SENT TO ME AGAIN TO KEEP A LINE OF CONVERSATION GOING. COULD IT BE THAT THERE IS A BUG / PHISHING STUFF SET ON MY ACCOUNT OR THERE IS SOMETHING I MAY HAVE ENABLED OR DISABLED UNCONSCIOUSLY THAT IS CAUSING THIS

Main oven over heating

A thermostst has gone

Ring up the supplier and ask them if they will cover the fault under warranty as a goodwill gesture in light of the fact it is only XXXX months old.

Be nice and see what happens

If they get nasty tell them they do have a moral and legal obligation to provide goods of merchantable quality

Main oven won't work

On ours you have to use the the timer controls; press the button with a hand symbol and the one next to it with a "-" symbol at the same time. Try a combination of the buttons on yours if this doesn't work. Weird, and took me months to figure!
