Question about Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Magnavox ptv835 I picked the tv up on the side of the road for free, hoping it could be an easy fix. The guy I got it from said the tv was given to him and at first it worked but the picture was dull and at some point went away all together. After I got it, I plugged it into the wall without being plugged into cable, satilite, ect. The set turns on but only will turn off with the remote from what i can figure out, and also there is no sound or picture which I would think that without being hooked up to a provider it should be static. I've tried to do as much research as I could before asking. The only problem I have found that it might be is a bad IC chip thingy. Im thinking about getting the magnavoxhelp.com repair kit, but I want to be sure it'll fix it before i buy it. Any help I can get would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

If its shrinking this is and easy fix...Goto the site www.TvRepairKits.com and get there shrinking video kit for your model.
As for the colors they are likely just washed out which is due to the CRT coolant. The same site has repalcement CRT fluid for your projection TV also.

I have a Phillips magnavox P960349102 model#PTV835. I have power no picture or sound. How do I fix this?

Have power/deflection board rebuilt. Probably will not last long from my experience. In reality this model is too old for a good, reliable fix (like CTC167 in RCA is too old for a good fix, and Hitachi pincushion circuits).

Common problem and fairly easy to fix.
Problem
Screen shrinks and expands - may or may not correct itself after the TV warms up. After a few days, weeks, or months of having the shrinking/expanding problem you may loose all audio/video but the power light will remain lit!

Solution:

Check with the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have built a kit to fix this problem.

No pic. or sound but power light is on

Most likely the blue picture tube arched and shorted out the horzontal output transistor.Very common problem with this chassis. Now if you have an electronics background you can most likley fix it, if not you will be dealing with finding a high voltage leak consisting of 31,000 volts which can kill you. That pop you heard was the high voltage leaking to ground.

It could be the flyback losing resistace in its windings. What is the chassis number I should have the service manual for it. Phillips/magnavox is hard to cross reference without the actual chassis number.
