We moved the printer from an old XP computer to a new XP computer. All the settings are the same, but we're not sure which port it is connecting to. When we choose COM1: or COM2:, it looks like it is printing (print window shows 1 document, then disappears), but nothing happens on the printer. When we choose COM3: or COM4:, "printing error" shows up in the print window.

Re: Refuses to print in XP - no error messages
Try going to 'add & remove hardware'. Remove the COM ports. Reboot your computer. Windows should find your hardware and install the COM ports. If not, add the COM ports manually. Leave the printer COM port settings on COM port 1 or COM port 2, whichever you prefer.

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your Epson printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.
Fix 'Carriage Jam' : Open Door, clear carriage jam,
and then press OK to continue' error message
Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
Does it print from any other program? (e.g. Notepad, MS Word etc)
Are you receiving any error messages? are the documents being passed to the printer queue? (if the printer icon is showing, you can check this by double clicking it - most printers will show the queue upon double clicking the tray icon)
I had the same error message 50c and "color Ink low". I knew that I still had Black Ink, and that is what I just needed for the moment, so I removed the color Ink cartridge and it started working. You'll get a message 'print cartridge missing' but just press continue.
Hope this helps,
Hi, you should check the position of paper sensor flag, called "actuator" (part number 4139 3505 02). On the picture - part 15. The "paper jam" error message means also - "toner cartidge missing", "paper out" or "photoconductor missing"
