Knob to switch from hose to floor

It will move (rotate) but not lock into place when you move it to "hose," thereby making it impossible to use the hose itself.

Does it feel loose? Try reseating the hose it may not be in all of the way. knob go all of the way to the floor position and the hose position? If you can give me I little more information I would be happy to help you.

Every thing clean & sucking well except wont pickup off floor. brush in good condition &rotating. any answers would help.


This is hard to answer without see it in person. Check and make sure there is no broken pieces on the bottom where you could loose suction. Also make sure you have the machine set correctly for either bare floors or carpet. If it is on set on carpet and yopu are cleaning bare floors you might loose suction there also. Also make sure you check all pathways for the dirt to get to the canister fo any signs of blockage. Are all the filters in place like they should be? Sounds like the suction is getting diverted from the floor somehow, make sure everything is secure and locked in place on the canister. Also check on the top of the handle and make sure the little purple screen is moved back into place covering the top of the handle, you could be sucking more air in thru this inlet and not enough off the floor! This is usually moved out of the way when you connect the hose to the handle for your attatchments. It may still be pulled back and needs to be moved forward into place!

My bissell powersteamer isnt suctioning the water


Please try the following suggestions to see if you can get your machine suctioning properly:


1) Remove the Tank-in-Tank Assembly and place your hand over the motor intake valve. This valve is located next to the Floor Nozzle gasket (at the top of the Floor Nozzle window) and behind the SmartMix Bottle. If you feel vacuum-like suction at this area, your suction power of the unit is working but air is escaping at some point. If there is no suction at the motor intake valve your machine will need to be inspected by an Authorized Service Center Technician.

2) It is possible the Floor Nozzle on your machine is inserted incorrectly. This would directly affect the suction of your machine. Please follow the directions below for removing and replacing the nozzle.

Before starting, please be sure the machine is unplugged and the machine handle is reclined.

To remove the Floor Nozzle window, first detach the Phillips head screws located at the base of the nozzle. Then, remove the Tank-in-Tank Assembly. Next, pull forward at the top of the Floor Nozzle window to release the tabs of this window from the receiving holes of the machine. This window is designed to allow access for cleaning.

When replacing the Floor Nozzle window, please be sure the tabs at the TOP of the nozzle are properly inserted into the receiving holes provided. If you do not have the tabs in place properly, the suction power of the machine could be affected.

Rotate the window down into place and replace the screws.

3) Ensure that the Ready Tools knob (diverter knob) is in the proper setting and the valve opens and closes freely. Ensure the black foam gasket is in place under the valve.

4) Check to ensure the Tank-in-Tank assembly is seated properly and that it is not full of dirty water. (If this tank has a drain cap, make sure it is in place and that it has a black o-ring).

5) Check the float and baffle to ensure they are properly installed on the Tank-in-Tank. The larger square portion of this part should be below the clear baffle of the tank with the red flag portion of the float resting on top of the baffle.

6) Check the Tank-in-Tank and lid for damage. Is the lint screen clogged? Make sure the lint screen is in place on the tank lid and not placed into the motor duct. Also, clear the holes on the lint screen.

7) Check to see if the upholstery hose has suction. If the hose has suction and the floor nozzle does not, check the diverter valve to see if it opens and closes freely. This can be seen through the Floor Nozzle window as you switch the diverter knob from the floor to tools setting.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The brush control is designed to switch the brush bar off automatically when you stand the machine back into the upright position. It is designed this way to protect any delicate floor surfaces when you have the machine switched on and upright and when you are using the hose.

Great suction through handle, no clogs anywhere,


OK - there are two obvious things to check: 1. Make sure the brush is rotating. The DC14 has a 'brush control system" operated by a knob on the base in front of the right side wheel. Make sure this hasn't accidentally been moved to the "off" position. With it in the "on" position, switch the machine on, tilt the handle back and check that the brush roll is rotating. If it isn't, then there's a broken belt or a problem with the clutch mechanism in the brush control system. 2. If the brush is rotating, switch the machine off (and unplug it), turn it over and you will see a short length of clear plastic hose with spiral reinforcing that runs from the brush area to the motor. That hose often develops a split (which lets air in and reduces suction around the brush). Take that hose off (pull it off from the motor end and then unscrew it from the brush end) and inspect it carefully for any damage. If it is damaged, get a new one - don't try and repair the old one, it's not worth it.

I cant open it


Before doing anything, make sure that the vacuum is unplugged from the outlet. After that, you are now ready to open your vacuum. Here are the steps to do so:
a) First, remove the dust cap by pressing the "cup release" button on the top rear right of the cleaner and pulling the dust cap away from the top. Set aside.
b) These first three steps are optional, but will make the process a bit easier... Now remove the hose attachment by twisting the base of the hose clockwise until the tabs line up and allow you to easily remove. Set aside.
c) Now remove the floor nozzle attachment by depressing the silver lock button located on the bottom back of the cleaner. While this is pressed in, pull the body of the vacuum and the carpet cleaning nozzle away from each other. (This is easier with two people, but can be done alone.) These steps will make the cleaner less bulky for you to take apart and work with.
1) Now on the back of the cleaner, you will see 9 screws. (3 on each side of the rear of the body, 1 on each side of the rear base of the body, and 1 in the middle of the hose actuator valve [the knob that switches between floor and hose]). Unscrew all of these and set them aside. *see note at bottom
2) Now that these 9 screws are removed and placed aside, you will now be able to remove the rear panel of the vacuum. Do so and move it out of your way. Keep in mind that the power cord runs through a hole in this panel and cannot be removed entirely without disconnecting wires (which I wouldn't recommend if you don't know what you're doing).
3) Now on the inside rear of the cleaner, your should see 1 screw in the top right holding the power cord in place. 1 screw below that on the right side holding a number of white and black wires in place. There will be 1 screw on top right of the gray plastic that the floor nozzle had attached to, and 1 on the bottom left. There are also 2 screws at the same height (1 on the left and 1 on the right) about a quarter way up from the bottom screwed into the green plastic on the left and right of the gray plastic floor nozzle attachment. Remove these 2 screws.
4) Now look on the outside left and right of the base of the cleaner. You should see 4 screws (2 on each side). Remove these.
5) Now you should be able to remove the front panel to expose the motor which will be surrounded by black foam and resting in a circular hole in the bottom. Voila! You have now opened up your vacuum cleaner.

*Something to keep in mind before removing the screw from the hose actuator valve is to pay attention to the position of the knob. Also look inside the hole of the hose coupling while turning the knob to note how the valve moves inside the cleaner. When reassembling, make sure that this is in the correct position.
