The oil is called (two cycle) oil. The easest way to mix, get a 4oz. bottle of 2 cycle oil and mix with 1 gallen of gas. extra oil is ok, But to little oil is Bad news to the motor.

All new homelite are run on a 40/1 mix i run mine at 30/1 i look at it this way,,,its a 2 stroke,,,it needs oil to stop it sezing up,,if i can see a little smoke then its got oil,,,mine is 15 years old and still going?????

    just ask for 2 stroke oil,,,you could use car engine oil (sae 30--20/50) but if you do it will oil up the spark plug faster and you will need a ritcher mix of oil to petrol so use 30/1 with car engine oil
    30 parts petrol to 1 part oil,,,no more than that for petrol or you may seze up your engine

Check age of gas. Cannot be more than 30 days old.
Make sure to use fresh gas w/synthetic 2-cycle oil @ 40:1 ratio (1 gal.) Gas to 3.2 oz. Oil). Do not use old or stale oil/gas mixture. Always use the proper oil/gas mix. If you do not, your engine will suffer rapid, permanent damage.May need to clean or replace carburetor.
