Your model is a CRT based projection set and as such, the dark screen indicates that the high voltage system has shutdown. There could be many causes of this. Perhpas the most common is a failure of the horizontal output transistor. If you are comfortable with working inside the set, you may be able to repair this yourself. If not, expect a parts cost in the $35 range. Add in the local labor rate for the total repair cost. Realize too that there are other causes that may arise during the diagnostic phase. If hte flyback transformer is defective, for example, the part cost will raise to $125 or so.

Keep us posted.

I have listed the best guess at the parts cost based upon your description of the problem. Without seeing the set or takeing measurements inside, I really can't get more specific. If you need more details, request a detailed repair estimate from a local servicer (there will be a cost for this) and post the results here. We can then guide you through the actual repair.

This failure could in the high voltage tripler. Check for any sign of light on the CRTs, no lights would indicate that the tripler is defective or it could also be the output of the flyback transformer. As you can see this might not be a DIY due to the complexity of the repair and the extreme high voltage around these components.
Good Luck.

Hi,

Often repair of this nature would require that you be very familiar with electronic circuitry and components, use of a DVM and a soldering iron as well as access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable venturing onto a DIY, then perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

If on the other hand you would consider trying your hands (with the usual safety precautions when working with TV units), you may want to focus your tests/checks the general area where the power relay is located. Board location S901 (P/N FJ00142). There would also be a 3amp pico fuse (E907) that may exhibit symptoms as you posted. Of course with the service manual, more explicit checks can be done.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

If the connections are not the problem, then unplug the television for 30 to 120 minutes, plug it back in, and the video should reset itelf. If that works and then the problem repeats itself, you are going to need to replace the video board. I recommend professional assistance for that. Find a local technician near you at FixYa.com

Check the video cable and make sure it has not come loose. Are you using a home theater system with this TV?

Posted on Jun 25, 2008

  • Justin Jun 25, 2008

If the video is disconnected from your tv weather it be the cable box, DVD player or console this can cause this issue with you not having any video. The sound is on separate cables. This is why I recommend you try and trace the video from your cable box or other output device and trace it to your TV. Check the connection on both the TV and output device and let me know if this helps. Thanks - Tech101

How do i fix this dip line its model 57 uwx 20 b

Look like RG convergence is out , but it's hard to tell from the pic
if you can't correct it with the set up in " convergence " on the setup menu , then your Convergence chips are failing

if you handy with a screw driver and a soldering iron you can swap out the chip yourself since it's not worth taking to a repair shop
cost for the chips 65.00 -70 , you can get cheaper if you shop around

Green bulb-or lamp on ultravision hitachi 57uwx20b does not work how much to replace?

On a projection television you will have to replace all three(red, blue, green) projection guns in a matched set, the reason is if you replace just the green gun, your picture will be over saturated with green light making your picture look green, because the new gun will be alot brighter than the red and blue guns.
With that said, repair will cost approx.$400+, I've heard up to$600. Good luck !

I have a hitachi 57uwx20b that had distorted

If the problem "distorted picture" was red and blue lines everywhere you may have a shorted convergence IC and the set may be in shutdown; someone needs to determine by unsoldering the two convergence IC chips and then trying to turn the set on; if they are unsoldered and the set comes on---one of them is the trouble----also you can look around them at a number of small resistors to see if any are discolored or look burnt--If you need more direct assistance my email address is:

etower.766@netzero.net

The convergence ic chips are usually located on the right side of the set as you look at it from the back on a large finned piece of metal(it is a heat sink to keep them cool).

Hitachi, model 57UWX20B ghosting?

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Hitachi 57uwx20b

First of all there is no light engine inside your set. Your model is CRT based. Can you better describe what you mean by the green only working occasionally? What exactly is the picture doing? Also, please confirm that your model is: 57UWX20B.

Thanks,
Dan
