I'm just answering because I got a response to my question and sort'a playing/paying it forward. I don't really know answer, maybe it's an electrical insulation barrier, maybe thermal, maybe a blank of some kind to keep a slot clean. If the vertical slot matches something then that's probably it's place, but, of cause, why?

Ctrl button seems stuck

Probably coke or similar stuck to it. Lift it with a pencil. It's only a bit of plastic raised by a small spring device permitting contacts to be closed when struck.

Want to print black and white. How?

Setting the font type color in a Microsoft Office Word document to black will ensure that the document prints the text in black. However, if there are images, graphics or photographs within the document, they will more than likely print in color or hued colors similar to black. To ensure that the entire document prints solely in black ink, you must set the color settings on your individual printer to black-and-white

1.Click "File" and then "Print." To open the print dialogue box using keyboard commands, press "CTRL" and "P" simultaneously.
2.Select the printer you are using at the top of the dialogue box under "Printer" and "Name."
3.Click the "Properties" button next to the selected printer. The dialogue box that appears is different for all users, as it depends on the type of printer being used.
4.Click on a tab, button or selection box indicating "Color." Most options include high-quality color, grayscale and black cartridge only. Choosing grayscale will print the document using various shades of gray and other tones such as blue or green that match the actual hues in the document visible on the screen. A photo or picture that may look black or gray could actually have blue undertones. To print purely in black and white with no undertones, you must select either "black cartridge" or "black and white only."
5.Select "OK" to return to the Microsoft Word printer dialogue box. Press the "Print" button to print the black-and-white document.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thanks.

Plz. help getting blue screen error. each time different errors like IRQL_NOT_LESS... DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS... some time error like driver ATI radian family stop responding and recover. some time error in...

There are a few things that can cause this. 1. One of your RAM modules (rectangle with cmall black rectangles on it) located on the motherbarod is bad. 2. You have WAY too many USB devices atached to your system, and there aren't enough IRQ's to go around.
TRY THIS: 1. Remove all the RAM modules, and try booting with them one at a time. if none of them work Then (HOPEFULLY) it's not your ram. (if it Isn't the second one, it could mean the RAM slots on your motherboard are bad, and misreading, or all your RAM is shot.) 2. Remove one USB device at a time, starting with anything plugged into an external USB Hub. And, as a future tip, never boot with any USB hubs, or external storage devices present, as they're known to cause issues with the boot process due to it's method of reading, and writing files to a drive.
What I mean by that, is that sometimes, if a removable drive's inserted upon boot, or while installing an operating system, it could have the boot files written to it, then when you take it out, you no longer boot, because you don't have the files to, so as a precaution, never have external drives or flash media inserted at boot. Gateway gt5404 reads no bootable device pc seemed to siow down some then went black was after micro. soft update ? unpluged twice pulled batt. reconected it worked set clock back worked awhile went black...

Any hard disk that makes clicking or metallic noises is faulty, especially when POST error message no bootable devices detected.
To confirm go into the BIOS setting and see if the hard drive is detected, if it cannot detect the hard drive then it is definitely faulty.
Replace the hard drive and install Windows on the new hard drive to get the computer working again.

I have a gateway solo 2500and missing something

Are you talking about the hard drive? If so, some have a ribbon cable, they are referred to as IDE cables or ATA, you can get one at any computer store. To check to see if this is the cable you need, look on the hard drive, there should be one slot with 40 pins, and another smaller slot with 8 or so pins and another with 4 large pins. If it has the 40 pin slot, it uses the IDE cable, the larger 4 pins are where you hook up the power cable from the power supply. If you dont see the 40 pin, you may see two straight black bars, with a small 90 degree bend at the end of them, that would be a sata cable that you would need.

Power to house shut down momentarily now Gateway GT5473E dead.

OK is it a brand built PC (ie. DELL, IBM)???

If so, the partition with the Vista backup.... is this the factory backup that came with the PC?

If so you should be able to access it somehow through the factory Setup/BIOS screen. There should be maybe an option to RESTORE to factory settings or something?

Upgrade from 600 MHz to 1 GhZ

According to this review, you can upgrade as far as a 2 GHz P4-M at least;,1895,669029,00.asp Other than that, i have been unable to find the details of your motherboard - if you can post the make and model (should be printed on it somewhere) then I would hope to find a more complete list of compatible and incompatible processors. Gateway themselves no longer offer online info or support for this model, but the motherboard details should enable me to find out what you need to know. Waiting for your post :)
