Surround sound with cable box input

we recently got HDTV via comcast cable. I have connected the comcast cable box output to my denon via an optical cable, into "OPT 1". However, I get only stereo sound - none of the so=urround speakers produce sound.

I went to try to configure opt1 but can not get the "system setup menue" to display on the denon.

Any hlep appreciated.
