Unable to resolve concave issues

Problem occurred on 5/29/08. Picture looks curved. Upper left corner and lower corners appear reddish/pink. Green lines /Ghosting appears on screen. Double lettering. Is this something that we can fix ourselves? We have done the Flash Focus and manual Convergence adjusting with no change in picture. Thanks,

Just happened to mine...red / greenish hue and skewed, concave-like corners curling off of the screen. Would much rather try to get this fixed than buy a new tv..any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same problem with my KP-46WT510. I called around locally and all repair shops knew what needed to be repaired after I explained what was going on, but all wanted $450 to $500 to repair and I had to take the set to them. I was unsure if it was worth fixing until I found this site. I contacted a gentleman at www.TvRepairKits.com and he was excellent in helping me with the repair. I ordered the convergence repair kit. After checking out the fuses and resistors, I replaced the convergence chips and one 3.5 pico fuse. I was lucky that I did not have to replace any of the resistors. I did buy a Radio Shack de-soldering iron (highly recommend getting this) and it was a simple repair. My TV now operates like a new one and my cost was about $85 and about 1-1/2 hours of my time. Please do not be afraid of fixing your set.

Tips

1) Replace the Convergence Chips with factory original Sanyo brand chips.

2) Examine the convergence resistors - replace any that look burnt.

3) Check the pico fuses - 3.5 amp - and 5amp - replace any that are burnt out.

Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit inlcludes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself. Its an easy fix.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

    • Screen looks 3D
    • Colors don't line up
    • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
    • Screen is bowed or warped.

    Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

    Solution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Picture out of alignment

Look in the menu for a manual alignment. From there you should be manually able to adjust each corner and overall color alignment unless other damage has occurred. Try that first.

PINK/GREEN SHADOWS, LINES

Here is what I was able to find out about your problem from sony: This issue is usually caused by some type of nearby magnetic interference, such as unshielded stereo speakers placed too close to the TV. These spots can be small or large and will normally be red, green or blue, but sometimes appear purple or pink. They normally occur on the sides or corners of the screen, but can also appear in the middle. To resolve this issue, move any stereo speakers or other electronic devices away from the TV; a minimum of 2-3 feet is recommended. If the situation is not remedied immediately, unplug the power cord of the TV from the electrical outlet for 20-30 minutes; repeat this process one more time if the issue is not resolved the first time. If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer in your area. Hope this is helpful:)
