Question about Samsung DLP HL-P5663W 56" TV

Popping and fading of sound

About every 5-15 minutes the sound on my Samsung 56" DLP makes a popping sound. It appears like the audio is fading out of HD-it gets quieter and the quality decreases-and goes back to analog. This happens while playing my Xbox as well. I have a DVR and all cables are hooked up accordingly. This happens on regular channels and while watching HD channels too. It sounds like the speaker is popping but awhile back I had a surround sound system hooked up, no popping sound. Now I don't have the surround sound, the problem seems to be getting worse.
Please help,
Tim

Thanks for the suggestion! Last week I removed the back cover of the TV & cleaned as best I as could-getting rid of dust 7 debris. This helped briefly, but the popping noise recurred within a day. I then went to the internal audio menu function of the TV. There are 5 settings: Speech, Movie, Music, Custom, and Default. I modified these settings and it the TV has not popped since. I am not sure if that was the culprit but it is working for now. Thanks again

I have an RCA DLP 44" and I also have a popping issue ocasionally as well as what sounds like a secondary audio signal. Sometimes it does it sometimes it does not. It sounds like the audio signal is transmitting twice a good and a bad on top of each other. Very unusual I have never heard anything like this before.

I bought the TV from Tiger Direct as a refurbished unit but I am thinking of taking it back.

The "popping" sound could be electricity jumping from one place to another. An internal SHORT in a transistor, an internal OPEN in a resistor.Intermittent [sometimes it does, sometimes it dose not] arcing electronic parts.
Dust [metal filings, very fine hair that burns like a fuse] & dirt [anything metal], arcing (shorted) capacitors.Bad connections on ANY ground connector.
Possible:: your surround sound MASKED the popping sounds by acting like a FILTER.Which lets me to think that your problem is in the audio section.

I found a solution to the sound problem, which was causing popping and static sound from the speakers. hls4666w. This was also shutting down the audio after watching TV for some time. I place a heat sink on IC 987 part number stv8258DSX. This IC controls the sound and is overheating. The cause is unknown to me. Its easy to place a heat sink. Direction: cut the heat sink to size allowing room for a nylon nut. make as tall as possible. drill hole in center, but drilling only to its center, not through it.. Use nylon screw and nut (plastic). Insert the screw through the hole in the grill cover metal and than thread the nut to it. place the heat sink on top of the IC and place the grill cover back on aligning screw in the hole. (Don't forget to use thermo compound between the heat sink and IC). pull up on the screw while turning clockwise to tighten. I left the TV playing all night to the next morning and sound remain normal. I even turn on SRS sound mode.

hi,
Check the lamp colling fan is it working or not. Also check the connection on the lamp holder is proper or not, possibility of connector burning . then, you have to check the lamp power supply. check the fuse in it. if all these are ok then you have to change the lamp power supply.
ok

Samsung DLP has no sound for about 8 minutes when first turned on.

Mine does the same thing. It makes a regular popping sound that does not change in level with the volume control. When the popping starts getting erratic the pixelated sound starts and in a short time the sound straightens out for the rest of the viewing time. However, the next time the cycle repeats itself. Did you find a fix?

Popping sound

In our area this is commonly the cable boxes. Does it occur on DVD or other sources? If not:

Reboot your scientific atlanta cable box by unplugging it from the wall for a few seconds, then plug it in and wait about 5 minuites for the time to come on again before use.
