It sounds like you have a software issue with windows and that is what is causing yoru computer to freeze. If you would like to get rid of this issue you can re-install windows with the CD that came with your computer. If you decide to go this route it will erase everything on your computer so backup anything you do not want erased. What you will need to do is put in the windows CD and restart the computer. The computer will now boot from the windows cd and you will be prompted asking if you would like to install windows. Good luck and keep me posted.

My computer just freezes up and the only thing I can do is restart it. Its been doing this since I bought it 3 years ago. HP can't fix it so I'm stuck with it. Its got the i7 chip with raid 1

Its a good pc and it must perform faster. If its slow then follow these guidelines::
  • Remove unused programs
  • Install and run antispyware software
  • Free up wasted space with Disk Cleanup tool
  • Defragment your hard disk drive

Click Start - Run, type in %temp% and then click OK.
Once that temp folder is open and you can view its contents, select and delete EVERYTHING that's inside it. It's all junk and is a good place for "nasties" to hide.
If you want to speed up pc then use PCFresher.

My computer too slow always get the not responding reply.

Eliminate Viruses and Spyware
Step 1

Run your antivirus program. There may be something slowing your computer that you can remove. It is a good idea to run your antivirus program every week.
Step 2

Remove spyware. Run a good spyware tool at least twice a month.
Step 3

Use a pop-up blocker, if you have one. Check your antivirus program.

Dispose of the Extras

Step 1

Delete your document files for anything you no longer need. Saved pictures, audio and video files in particular can slow your computer.

Step 2

Remove unwanted programs from the Control Panel area. Old toolbars or games the kids downloaded off the Internet are a good place to start. Look for software you no longer use, such as the old printer you threw out last year.

Step 3

Clean out your email. Old messages are a constant drain on your computer's resources. Go through every folder, deleting everything you do not need. Leave no mail! Finish by emptying the Deleted Items folder.

Step 4

Turn off unnecessary programs. Check your taskbar for icons that show running programs. Disable anything you are not currently using.

Run Maintenance

Step 1

Run the Disk Cleanup tool located in your Control Panel. (Windows only. For other operating systems, please check the Resources section below.) This will remove temporary files, cookies and unnecessary components to speed up your computer.

Step 2

Defragment your computer. Defragging takes some time, but will speed your computer significantly. You can find the tool in your Control Panel. Run it monthly.

Step 3

Check for disk errors. Sometimes corrupted files slow down your computer. To find and fix these files, Go to My Computer and right-click on C drive. Choose Properties, then Tools.

My 18 month old computer freezes for about a minute .

could be 100 problems. but the pricipal ones are, moisture, very high fragmented hard drives with lot´s of junk files and bad system configurations. next time the computer freezes let him freezed for one or two hours and see if any activity happening on the hard drive. try open the pc case and very gently clean the rams, cpu cooler and the rear fans.

My computer freezes and/or shuts down whenever it wants to.

Sounds like you may have a virus, or your hard drive is failing? Get Combofix, SPFix Hijackthis and run them... in that order, work through them. If this doesn't help, well before actually scan your hard drive for errors, Defragment, run Disk Cleanup. Check you have lots of hard drive space too. More than 15% of total.
Using Start>>Run>> Msconfig go to startup tab and disable all and then reboot re-enable one by one rebooting in between & see if that helps.

After i've turned on my computer, and used it for about 5 to 10 minutes, the computer freezes and i have to turn the computer off. when my computer freezes my mouse usually does not freeze. sometimes i'll...

You can start by uninstalling the program you installed before this started happening. You can also do system restore which you'll find in start>accessories>system tools.
If nogo, try disconnecting devices on the back of the computer except the keyboard, mouse, monitor and power. Turn the computer on without them. If the issue disappeared, reconnect what you unplugged one at a time until you find the culprit.

Computer freezing

The shutting down as well as the freezing issue could have been caused by any one or all of the hardware you replaced.......the trick is to change one thing at a time to help narrow it down

Assuming the Ram/HD/PS are new and ok I would look at overheating problems.... is the computer dusty ...look at the Heatsink on the CPU is it clogged with dust and are all the fans working ......use an Air compressor or a can of air from a computer shop to blow the dust out....

Another reason could be a Virus or spyware/malware ....run a full Antivirus/Spyware check ........

Dell Dimension 2400 Freezes frequently

check inside the case of the computer to make sure that the interface cable between the hard drive and the motherboard are fully connected. Also check to see if the RAM modules are fully inserted into their slots. If not, they try removing them one by one, until the computer starts up faster. If this doesn't fix it, then try a new hard drive, and interface cable.

HELP

I would check the Ram and CPU. If you can swap the ram you have with good ram, or if you have more than one stick of ram in there take one out at a time to see if thats the problem. Next go into bios and check the CPU temperature after you have been running your computer for a while. The problem with diagnosing this problem is how much time in between freezes. 18 times in 6 months makes it hard to diagnose, because you won't know if you fixed the problem unless it freezes again after you changed something, and even if it does freeze again it could be because of an entirely different problem.
